Patriarch of Alexandria: Peoples must reject all forms of violence, hatred and terrorism

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa held a memorial service for his late predecessor, Patriarch Petros VII, marking 22 years since his death.

The service was held after the Divine Liturgy at the Chapel of Saint Nektarios at the Patriarchal Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria.

Prayers were also offered for the members of Patriarch Peter’s delegation and the crew of the Chinook military helicopter who died with him in the crash on September 11, 2004.

Patriarch Theodore also commemorated the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

The Patriarch stressed the importance of peace and called on peoples to reject all forms of violence, hatred and terrorism and to promote mutual respect, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

Prayers were also offered for the late Archimandrite Chrysostomos, longtime Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan and a member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, who died recently.
