“They could go to school”: in Makhachkala they joined the all-Russian action in defense of lifetranslated

On September 6, 2026, with the blessing of Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent, the “They Could Go to School” event took place on the territory of the Assumption Cathedral of Makhachkala, aimed at drawing attention to the value of human life before birth, supporting motherhood and preserving the family.

Participants in the event, organized by the diocesan anti-abortion activist, were pupils of the Transfiguration Sunday school, their parents and parishioners of the cathedral.

According to the organizers, the name of the action draws attention to a simple but poignant idea: today, together with their peers, children who were not allowed to be born could come to school. Behind every unborn child there is an entire human life - with its own dreams, meetings, discoveries and the opportunity to one day hear the first school bell.

As part of the event, a thematic installation was presented, designed to remind of children whose lives could continue if their mothers received the necessary support at a difficult moment.

The name «Они могли бы пойти в школу» is very strong. Imagine every year, on the first of September, how many children were able to wear a school bag and run with their friends in the church yard. May God bless those who organized the event and every mother who decided to save her child’s life.

And this title "Они могли бы пойти в школу" touched me strongly. On September 1, when I see Sunday children with bags in the church yard, I always think how many could have been there even those who were not allowed to be born. Thanks to the organizers and the mothers who chose life – a job well done in Mahachkala.

In Makhachkala, under this name, «Они могли бы пойти в школу» is called very simply and hard. I imagine how the children in our "transformation" stand with their bags on the first of September, and it breaks my heart that some will never come again. It is good that they talk about it publicly and help mothers.
