"Mystagogy of Prayer according to Elder Joseph Vatopedinos"translated

The publication of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi is circulating the opinion of the Monastery's Professor, Elder Ephraim Vatopedinos, entitled: "Mystagogy of Prayer according to Elder Iosif Vatopedinos". Prayer is the main factor in the Christian's spiritual life. With prayer the believer begins repentance and through prayer he is led towards salvation, sanctification, deification. Only through prayer can the worldly evil that dominates our society today be thwarted.

The blessed Elder Joseph of Vatopedino was one of the few who had received the gift of pure, uninterrupted prayer, but also of the state that arises beyond prayer. How this happened, and how prayer acted in the Elder's life, is described in the book "Mystagogy of Prayer according to the Elder Joseph Vatopedino", the author of the book Elder Ephraim, Professor of the Holy Great Monastery of Vatopedi, helped by the blessed Elder's teaching on prayer, from what he experienced in the thirty years he was with him, and also from the same extemporaneous prayers of the blessed Elder, presented to the reading public for the first time.
