My beloved Fathers and Brothers,

My beloved children in the Lord,

The Fathers of the Church advise us, in the toil and activities of everyday life, to maintain daily contact with the word of the Gospel, the teaching of our faith and the example of the Saints. The prayer of the heart, the study of the biblical and paternal texts and the frequent participation in the devotional life of the Church help us to remain focused on God and not to let our soul move away from the source of life and its joy.

In particular, the Saints insist on systematicity: Not a single day without prayer, without study, without remembrance of God.

And this because they know from their spiritual experience how easily the human soul changes and how quickly, when it is not fed by Grace, it cools down and drifts away. Then man looks for substitutes in temporary pleasures and habits which, while they promise to satisfy him, leave him constantly thirsty and gradually bind him. Then the powers of the soul lose their orientation and the soul becomes enslaved to the passions.
