CYPRUS, 52 years after the barbaric Turkish invasion: I DON'T FORGET! – Condemnation of the crime, honor to the fallen and the fate of the missingtranslated

Today marks 52 years since Saturday morning on July 20, 1974, when the Turkish forces, in defiance of international law, divided the island of Cyprus by force of arms and violence. Still experiencing the consequences of that tragic day, the people of Cyprus today condemn the crime and honor the fallen. Sirens sounded in all cities with the signal to start the alarm at 5:30 in the morning, when Turkey in 1974 invaded Cyprus in violation of the Charter of the United Nations. The Turkish invaders bombed, destroyed, looted, raped, vandalized churches and monasteries and forced 200 thousand Greek Cypriots to leave their ancestral homes, with 37% of the territory of Cyprus still in the hands of the conquerors.

The most tragic consequence of the Turkish invasion is the missing persons. Thousands of Greek Cypriots had been arrested and held in concentration camps in Cyprus while over 2,000 prisoners of war had been illegally transported and held in prisons in Turkey. The fate of a significant number of missing persons has not yet been ascertained to this day.
