Funeral for the Lord and Teacher Georgios Hatzichronogloutranslated

September 3, 2026 · 1 min read

Funeral text, of the best student of Archon Georgios Hatzichronoglou, father of Vassiliou Kaperonis (Metropolis of Sparta). It was delivered in Loutoufi at the burial of Archon and Teacher Georgios Hatzichronoglou. Reverend Fathers, my mourning brothers, dear relatives, friends and students of the late one, and especially my beloved Olympia and his children,

Today, we stand before a pulpit that fell silent. We are standing before a man who for more than forty years did not just sing.

He served the lectern. He served the Church. He served Byzantine Music.

And, above all, he served God.

At the age of seventy-nine, our late Lead Singer is completing his earthly ministry.

Yes, this passage also spoke a lot to me. Twenty-eight years in the same analogy means that he was there even on rainy mornings when there was almost no one there, not just at the eulogies. This is true service. May the Lord give him eternal rest.

Yes, this detail of the twenty-eight years in Cholargos also marked me. We can imagine winter mornings when we still had to open the analog, even for three people. At home in Paris, our old psalt did the same at Saint-Serge, and that changes everything. May the Lord give him rest.
