The life of Saint Demetrius through the exhibits of the Museum of Byzantine Culturetranslated

The story of the patron saint of Thessaloniki, Agios Demetrius, and the worship of him in the Byzantine world, are told by objects in the permanent exhibitions of the Museum of Byzantine Culture, in the context of the new series of activities "An exhibit tells". Specially designed themed tours give visitors the opportunity to get to know lesser-known aspects of Byzantine culture through selected objects, which have their own history and reveal aspects of the past.

In the third thematic section, objects related to Saint Demetrius "tell" their story and take visitors on a journey into the past. The guided tour focuses on the life and martyrdom of the saint, the decoration of his church in Thessaloniki and the spread of honor towards his person throughout the then known world, the "domesticated".

At the same time, the historical path of the representations of Saint Demetrius on different objects, such as icons, coins and seals, is presented, as well as the way in which these were connected to the conditions that prevailed in Byzantium.
