Dimitriados Ignatios: "The familiarity with violence is a danger" - Archpriest Cleric in Kortsatranslated

July 5, 2026 · 1 min read

A High Priestly Liturgy was held today, Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Holy Church of the Resurrection of Christ of Korytsas, the preeminent of His Eminence Metropolitan Demetrias and Almyros, Mr. Ignatiou, co-officiating with the local Pastor, His Eminence Metropolitan of Korytsas, Mr. Anastasiou. His Eminence Metropolitan Mr. Ignatios was accompanied by thirty-six (36) doctors of the "Health Care Services of Love" of the Holy Metropolis of Dimitrias and Almyros, who, during their three-day stay in Koritsa, performed more than 1,500 free preventive medical examinations, offering valuable services to the residents of the area.

In his sermon, His Eminence expressed his joy and emotion for his presence in Korça, stressing that the visit of the mission takes place in a climate of resurrection joy and fraternal unity.

As he characteristically mentioned, "we are indeed living resurrection moments", as the Church of Albania is a living testimony of the power of the Resurrection of Christ, having been reborn through difficult historical trials.

On the occasion of the Gospel passage about the demon-possessed people of Gergesene, His Holiness pointed out...

The "Ministry of Health of Love" in Dimitrias really shows how the Church makes love practical—last fall our St. Nicholas parish health fair had 20 volunteers, but 36 doctors doing 1,500 checkups? That’s serious ministry.

The fact that 36 doctors performed over 1,500 examinations in three days is commendable. Here in Novi Sad, we had a similar action in the parish last year, but with much fewer doctors and fewer examinations. It is nice to see that the Church does not only talk about love, but also shows it concretely.

In Rostov, too, a couple of years ago, doctors from the Greek diocese came and did free examinations in one church. 36 doctors in three days is serious, more than one and a half thousand people were served. I wonder how they then worked with those who needed treatment?

I agree, Zoran, 1500 views in three days is not a small thing. Here in Banja Luka, we had a similar action last fall, but we reached about 400 examinations with a dozen doctors. I ask you, how did you organize it in Novi Sad, did people come by themselves or did you go around the villages?

Our parish in Ottawa once hosted a smaller team from Greece for a one-day clinic and we managed maybe 180 checks. 36 doctors knocking out 1,500 in three days up in Korçë is on another level. Makes you wonder how they coordinated the follow-up for folks who needed more treatment, like Екатерина asked.

That's a really nice example of how love turns into action, Zoran. Here in Kragujevac, we had an action with a dozen doctors last year, but we didn't get close to those numbers - mainly because we limited ourselves to the city parish. Was it difficult to gather so many doctors in your place in Novi Sad or do they report themselves?

Here in Krasnodar, too, such teams from Greece came a couple of times, but not on such a scale. I wonder what happened next with the patients - probably the local doctors in Koritsa then continued, or at least gave a direction. And in Rostov, how did people then go to see Greek doctors in Greece?

Here in Niš, the doctors usually call themselves when they hear that we are going outside the parish, so it was not difficult to gather them. It's great that you tried it in Kragujevac, even if on a smaller scale - every action counts. Have you noticed that people come more when they see that the examinations are really free and without waiting?
