The Metropolitan of Kydonia held a memorial service for those who fell during the Battle of Vrysatranslated

With respect and emotion, on Monday, August 31, 2026, at the historical site "Kefalovrysi" of Vrysi, Apokoronou, the memory of the heroes who fought and fell for Faith and Country during the Battle of Vrysi, on the three days of August 26 to 29, 1866, one of the most important conflicts of the Great Cretan Revolution, was commemorated. The event was attended by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronou, Mr. Titos, who performed the memorial service at the monument of the fallen in the presence of representatives of the political and military Authorities, agencies and many residents of the area.

The event was co-organized by the Region of Crete - Chania Regional Unit, the Municipality of Apokoronou, the Cultural Association of Vrysos, the "Agia Sophia" Charitable Foundation, the Federation of Associations of Apokoronou Attica and the Municipal Community of Vrysos.

The memorial service was followed by the laying of wreaths and greetings, while the historical speech was delivered by the lawyer Mr. Emmanuel Nikoloudis, who presented evidence and facts related to the Battle of Vrysa and its importance for the development of the Cretan Revolution of 1866.
