Biarchial Divine Liturgy in Heraklion, Atticatranslated

August 10, 2026 · 1 min read

A bi-priestly Divine Liturgy was held on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin of Prasinou Lofou, Heraklion, Attica, presided over by the Reverend Metropolitan of Ioannina, Mr. Maximos, and co-celebrated by the local Pastor, the Reverend Metropolitan of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Heraklion and Chalkidon. Mr. Gabriel. In his short address, Metropolitan Mr. Gavriel warmly welcomed the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Ioannina, Mr. Maximus, referring to his varied spiritual and pastoral work and expressing his joy for his blessed presence.

The divine word was preached by the foreman of the Eucharistic Synod, Metropolitan Mr. Maximos, who, after thanking Metropolitan Mr. Gabriel for the kind invitation, then referred to the Gospel Reading of the day (Matthew 17, 14-23), pointing out the power of faith and prayer in the life of the Christian.

Thanks for the news. I was happy to see that Metropolitan Maxim spoke exactly about the power of faith and prayer in the pericope with the lunatic son - it's a passage that always gives me something to think about when I come to the service. A blessed day to have both hierarchies.

I noticed how Metropolitan Maximos tied the Gospel about the lunatic boy straight to everyday faith and prayer. That part always makes me pause too, Ioana. Nice to see both hierarchs together in Heraklion.
