Memorial for the fallen heroes of Pomos in Cyprustranslated

The National Commemoration of the Fallen Heroes of Pomos was held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the Holy Church of Agios Efpsychios in the Municipal District of Pomos, according to an announcement by the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous. The memorial service was organized by the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous and the Committee of Fallen Heroes of Pomos, in memory of the heroes who fell during the Second World War 1940-1945, in the Battles of Tellyria in 1964, as well as during the coup and the Turkish invasion of 1974.
The memory of Savvas Antonio Kazalis, Andreas Orphanidis, Evangelos Roussos, Chrysanthos Dionysiou, Sotiris Ioannou, Georgios Michael and Prodromos Christofis Tsaousis was honored. As reported by the Municipality of Polis Chrysochous, these heroes are timeless symbols of patriotism, competitiveness and selfless contribution to the country.
At the same time, a memorial service was held for the discovery of the bones of the missing Lieutenant Panagiotis Panagiotou.
The commemoration was presided over by the Panosiology Archimandrite Ioannis, while the memorial speech was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Culture of Cyprus Clea Papaellina, who referred to the importance of historical memory and the need to keep alive the sacrifice of heroes.
