The first bell rang at the historic Himara Greek School "Homeros"translated

Yesterday, the Consecration for the start of the new school year took place at the Himara Greek School "Homeros". The new school year is a new beginning, full of expectations, hopes and dreams for students, but also an important opportunity for knowledge, creation and personal development. For its part, the Municipality of Himaras wished all students, teachers and their families a good, creative and educational school year, with health, strength and many successes.

Greek education has deep roots in this historical place, where in 1779 Agios Kosmas Aitolos founded the Akrokeraunio School. The school was closed in 1945 by the communist regime of Enver Hoxha and reopened in 2006, after nearly six decades of silence.

On the occasion of the start of the new school year, the MEP from Himara, Fredis Beleris, wrote in his post:

Good to see the school bell ringing again in Himara after all those years of silence. The fact that St. Kosmas founded the original school right there in 1779 makes it feel like the place has real roots. Hope the kids get a solid year of learning and stay healthy.
