Zakynthos sang and sang in Vanato: Commemoration of the 1953 Earthquake and Fire and foreshock of the Panaygoula Festivaltranslated

A special evening dedicated to the Zakynthian musical tradition, church and folk, was held on the evening of Sunday, August 9, 2026, in Panagoula Vanatou, with the cooperation of the Educational Center for Speech and Art "Alithos" and the polyphonic Mixed Choir of the "Child's Dream" Charity Association. The event had a double symbolic orientation: on the one hand, it was a musical reminder of the Earthquake of August 1953, which left an indelible mark on Zakynthos and its culture, and on the other hand, it was a cultural preview of the annual Festival of Panagoula, which will culminate on August 14 and 15, during the great theological feast of the Dormition of Theotokos.
The evening began inside the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin with the performance of the Small Prayer Rule to the Virgin Mary, according to the special Zakynthian musical idiom of church chanting.
The Prayer was performed, from the priesthood, by Protopresbyter Ioannis Paraschis, Parish Priest of Keri, while the cantor dance was conducted, out of respect, by the Protopsalti of Athens, Mr. Panagiotis Kandilas, who came from Chorhoulid Zakynthos.
Reverend was praying at the Altar. Metropolitan of Zakynthos...
