The Philosofou Monastery, built above the Lousios River in Arcadia, is one of the most important monasteries in Greece and is linked to the history of education, Orthodoxy and Hellenism. The Monastery of Prodromos, built on a steep rock, above the gorge of the Lousios river, is dedicated to Agios Ioannis Prodromos and is an important monument of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine tradition.

Beautiful pictures from the two monasteries. The way they built Moni Prodromos on the rock above the valley is hard to believe. I hope I can visit Arcadia one day and see the sights for myself.

Yes, Oleg, in the photo, the Prodrom Monastery really seems to be glued to the rock, like a swallow's nest. I read that monks in the 16th century dug caves in the rock by hand to secure the foundation. Thanks for paying attention, this place is the most impressive.

The Prodromos monastery really does look like it was glued to the cliff like a swallow’s nest, just as Tatyana said. I can’t imagine carving out the rock by hand in the 16th century to set the foundation. The video must be worth watching.
