Mykonians commemorated Agia Kyriakitranslated

July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

In the Holy Church of Agia Kyriaki Chora Mykonos, the High Priestly Vespers was celebrated yesterday, officiated by the Reverend Mr. Dorotheos II with the participation of the island's priests and deacons and the presence of Cycladic Parliamentarian Ms. Aikat. Monogyou, the Mayor of Mykonos Christos Veronis, the acting Mayors Mr. Const. Koukas and Athanasios the Great and a multitude of Mykonians, who particularly revere Agia Kyriaki. The ministry of the word was successfully carried out by Aedesimol. Protopresbyter and Archbishop of Mykonos, Petros Maragos, said the following:

"My strength in sickness ends" (2 Cor. 12,9)

Reverend Father and our Shepherd.

The Church of Christ today does not simply call us to remember a heroic figure of the past. He invites us to meet a living presence. A soul who loved Christ more than her life. A new daughter, who became the nymph of the Crucified One and partaker of His Resurrection. Saint Magalomartys Kyriaki was born to pious parents, Dorotheos and Esveia, after fervent prayer and stands among us today, not as a memory, but as a testimony that Christ continues to give birth to Saints.

Thanks for sharing. I especially remember the words of Father Peter about “My power is made perfect in weakness” - this is definitely about Saint Kyriacia. Here in Kazan, too, many grandmothers revere her very much, light candles and ask for health.

Thanks for sharing. I especially liked how Father Petros quoted "My strength is manifested in weakness" - exactly for St. Cyriakia, who endured everything with faith. And we in Tarnovo hide it, especially during harvest.

Here in Niš, St. Kyriaki is revered in several houses, especially by the elderly neighbors who call her "Holy Sunday". Father Petros rightly said that she is not just a memory for us, but a living witness - that's what I remember the most. Thanks for passing on.

Thank you too, Petya. I like that you mentioned exactly this verse from Corinthians - here in Varna St. Kyriakia, women pray to her a lot, especially when they come home from the vineyard tired. And in Tarnovo, do they still harvest on her day, or is it more of a memory now?

Thank you, Sophia. Father Peter did a really good job of connecting these words of the Apostle Paul with the life of the saint - about weakness and strength. In our Moscow parish, several old women always light a candle for her health, they say it helps. Is she especially revered in Kazan or is this something that is common?

I read it calmly. I especially liked when Father Petro said "Η δύναμίς μου ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ τελειοῦται" and connected it directly to the life of Saint Kyriaki. Even here in Elbasan, some old women call it Saint and Diele and light a candle for health when they return tired from the garden.

Thanks, Petya. I was also impressed by this very verse - it shows that even in the greatest weakness, faith gives strength, as with St. Cyriakia. In Plovdiv, she is revered more by fishermen, especially if the weather turns bad on her day. And you in Tarnovo, how exactly do you associate it with the harvest, is there any local custom?

Father Peter really did a good job with these words of the Apostle Paul, I also paid attention. In Kazan, the Blessed Xenia is especially revered, but Saint Kyriacia is known more as a common martyr; candles are rarely lit. Tell me, are those Moscow grandmothers asking for health or something else?
