The Turks are turning the historical church of Agios Efstathios in Cappadocia into a museumtranslated

The Turkish authorities are proceeding with the conversion of yet another Orthodox Christian church into a museum. This time it is about the historical church of Agios Efstathios in Injessou of historical Caesarea.  The local Municipality proceeds with the touristic exploitation of a sacred place built by the Karamnlides and which, until the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 and the mandatory exchange of populations, functioned normally for the Greek inhabitants of Cappadocia.

The church was erected in 1836 and is one of the most important historical buildings of the region, while with the new data it is now going to house the Municipal Museum of Injessos, with the local authorities simultaneously seeking its inclusion in the wider tourist route of Cappadocia.

Restoration work began in 2021 and was completed in 2025, according to the Metropolitan Municipality of Caesarea. The historic church with its special architectural decoration, after the departure of the Greek residents, was used by the Turks as a military warehouse, archive, theater and vocational school.
