"The Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni Ierapetra"translated

The book by Dimitrios L. Papadakis, philologist and former High School Principal, entitled "The Holy Monastery of Panagia Faneromenis Ierapetra", is an important publishing contribution of the Holy Metropolis of Ierapytni and Sitia to the ecclesiastical, historical and cultural memory of our place. The luxury edition with a hard cover of 478 pages in four colors and 28x21 format was produced in Ierapetra in 2025, edited by Rev. Metropolitan of Ierapytni and Sitia Mr. Kyrillos.

The renowned author approaches the Monastery of Faneromeni not just as a historical monument, but as a living ecclesiastical place, inextricably linked to the faith of the people, the devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the monastic tradition, national struggles and social ministry. Already from the preface, the Monastery stands out as a spiritual beacon of Eastern Crete, a place of practice, consolation, worship and historical continuity.

The value of the project lies mainly in the serious and long-term research. The well-known philologist Mr. Dimitrios Papadakis, originally from the village of Vasiliki Ierapetra, adjacent to the Faneromeni Monastery, used archival sources, monastic and ecclesiastical...

I read carefully that the author, Mr. Papadakis, is from Vasiliki, the village right next to the monastery. This must give the book a special authenticity, especially when it talks about the lives of the monks and the devotion of the local people. Thank you to Bishop Cyrille for this beautiful edition of 478 pages, I hope to be able to leaf through it one day at the parish.
