Metropolitan of Piraeus: "We live here on earth, but our homeland is the heavens"translated

Protopresbyter Seraphim, Metropolitan of Piraeus, celebrated yesterday Wednesday, September 23 and today Thursday, September 24, 2026, the feast of the Panagia Myrtidiotissa at the patronal feast day church of our local Church in Mikrolimanio. Yesterday evening the Vespers service concluded with the chanting of the Protopresbyter Seraphim, assisted by the Very Reverend Bishop Nephon of Acheloos, Archdeacon and Protodeacon of the Holy Metropolitanate of Piraeus. The clergy were presided over by the General Archpriest Eparch Bishop John Panagiotou and priests of the Metropolitanate of Piraeus.

During his sermon, the Most Reverend Metropolitan initially referred to the revered face of the Blessed Theotokos, "the Mother of God and of men," as well as to the historic miraculous icon of the Panagia Myrtidiotissa venerated especially and associated with the island of Kythera.
