The Virgin Mary, patroness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Cyprus, is celebrated on September 8, during the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, by the National Guard. In his message, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Vassilis Palmas, states:

"On the day of the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, we celebrate at the same time the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Cyprus.

The message of the Nativity of the Virgin, a message of life and hope, meets the eternal mission of the National Guard. The defense of the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, and the protection of the security of its citizens against any threat.

With adherence to its values, deep respect for its historical path and with an eye on the future, the National Guard, 62 years since its establishment, continues to respond with consistency and determination to the demands of a complex and ever-changing security environment.

Honor to all who have served and are serving in the National Guard.

Eternal honor and gratitude to all those who heroically fell defending the Motherland".

It is probably good that the army has such a patroness as the Mother of God. We also have many who pray specifically to Her when it comes to protecting the home. And on September 8, our church is always full of people for the Nativity of the Mother of God.

Yes, Bohdan, here in Odesa, too, on the Christmas of the Mother of God, the church is always full, especially grandmothers with flowers. It is good that the army of Cyprus chose her as their patron, because praying to her for the protection of the home is something that many of us know in practice. And do you often pray specifically to the Mother of God in such matters?
