The Metropolitan of Petra on the life and teachings of the Prophet Heliostranslated

The Most Reverend Metropolitan of Petra and Herronissos, Mr. Gerasimos, officiated at the Solemn Vespers held at the celebratory Holy Church of Prophet Ilios of the Parish of Vrisso on the afternoon of Sunday, July 19, 2026. On the morning of the holy day, he officiated at the celebratory Holy Church of Prophet Ilios Karydi. Referring to the life and teachings of the Prophet Elios, he emphasized: "The Prophet Elias was a zealot of the faith. What does this mean? That he tried in every way to apply the word of God in his life and then teach it, transfer it to the people and even check them if they did something wrong. He lived 800 years before Christ, in a period of apostasy of Israel. In fact, the northern Kingdom of Israel, of the ten tribes, had denied faith in the true God, the God who had brought them out of Egypt, who had saved them so many times, who had given them the Promised Land and the Commandments to walk in. So they had denied God, because King Ahaz had married an idolater, Jezebel, who had introduced the worship of Baal and of idols.
