Artis Kallinikos: "Kindness, justice, kindness, love for others. That's where true education flourishes"translated

September 8, 2026 · 1 min read

Metropolitan Artis Mr. Kallinikos sends a message for the start of the new school year 2026-27.  It states in detail:

My dear children, dear parents and teachers,

With the first bell, school life begins again. The halls are filled with voices, the books take their place and a world of knowledge and discovery spreads before you. Each lesson brings something new; each page can become an occasion for a new thought.

My children, love the letters. To ask, to search, to think. Go forward with perseverance and a pure heart. And in all that you will learn, keep those that make a person better: kindness, justice, kindness and love for others. That is where true education flourishes.

I wish parents and educators strength and enlightenment. Behind every small step of a child there is your effort, your patience and your love. May God support you in your work and grant you the joy of seeing your efforts bear fruit.

With the Lord's blessing, let this journey begin. May Christ enlighten the minds of the children, strengthen their hearts and give parents and teachers strength and patience...

Thank you for this beautiful message from Monsignor Kallinikos. I particularly remembered “καλοσύνη, δικαιοσύνη, ευγένεια και αγάπη για τον άλλον”: this is exactly what I try to pass on to my son every evening when we reread our lessons together. Teachers already have enough work, so we really need to support them at home. May God give them all strength this year.

Good morning, I carefully read the message of Metropolitan Kallinikos. Especially what he says about kindness, justice, kindness and loving others reminded me of exactly what I try to tell my two daughters every morning before they leave for school. As a school secretary, I see how important it is for teachers to reinforce it, because that's the only way true education comes out. Thanks for the message.

My daughter is also going to school, and these words of Metropolitan Kallinikos are right on point. Every evening, when we repeat our lessons, I tell her: the main thing is not only numbers and letters, but that she grows up kind and fair. Thank you for such a simple and true reminder.

I totally agree, Despina. These four that the Metropolitan says are what remain in man, after mathematics and history. I used to say the same thing to my daughter for years before she left for school, and now that she's older I see that they really count more. How are your two daughters doing this year?

Metropolitan Kallinikos' words about kindness, justice, kindness and love for others are exactly what we used to say to our children every morning before they left for school in Zakynthos. Now that they are grown and have children of their own, I see that they stay longer than the lessons. Thanks for the message, God help all parents and teachers.
