Metropolitan of Didymoteicho: Theoptis Moses in front of Saint Vatostranslated

In memory of Theopti Prophet Moses, in Mikro Derio, the former Municipality of Orpheus, the Virgin Mary the "Unflammable Bush" is honored. It is a beautiful icon, which was painted years ago in the homonymous picturesque Chapel, which was erected with the care and expense of the Holy Metropolis on a hill overlooking the settlement, in a green and idyllic landscape. On the afternoon of the eve of the feast, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Metropolitan Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, Orestiada and Soufli presided over the Vespers service, blessed the loaves and spoke about the life of Theopi Moses, the exodus of Israel from Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea and the forty-year march of the people in the Sinai desert to the Promised Land. Then, interpreting the theological symbolism of the "Incombustible Bush", he stressed that it is the most important model of the Theotokos. Just as the bush was inflamed by fire without being burned, so the Virgin Mary received the "fire of divinity", the Only-begotten Son and Word of God, and remained incorruptible.
