"O godly life and glorious your death was a passport, O pure one, from the epikiros to the divine indeed and intoxicating drunkards to you, achran, rejoicing in your holy Son and Lord" (ode 4 of the first canon of the Dormition of the Theotokos). (Your death, Holy Virgin, became a passport to the eternal and better life, as it transposes you, thankless, from the earthly life here to the divine indeed and permanent, in order to see with joy your Son and Lord).

A small pearl from the great feast of the Dormition, the hymn, which in a concise way emphasizes its main elements.
1) The time has come for the death of the Mother of the Lord.
2) Her death is the passport to eternal life which is better than earthly life.
3) It is therefore a transition from this life to the divine and permanent reality.
And 4) The characteristic of the eternal life to which the Virgin is transposed is the joy of the constant vision of her Son and God.
