Arsenius of Austria: Faith does not abolish natural laws, but introduces man into the energy of Godtranslated

On the 9th Sunday of Matthew, August 2, 2026, His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria presided over the High Priestly Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Vienna. The Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Fr. Ioannis Nikolitsis and the Archdeacon of the Holy Metropolis of Austria Fr. Georgios Meleshko officiated, while a large number of believers enthusiastically participated in the Divine Liturgy. Interpreting the Gospel passage of the day, His Holiness referred to the Lord's Epiphany to the disciples on the waters, emphasizing that in this event the Creator is revealed in His creation. He emphasized that the ship of the disciples is an image of the Church, which always moves through history, even among opposing winds, heresies, persecutions, weaknesses and passions. Despite the storms, the Church does not sink, because its ruler is the Lord of Glory.

His Holiness pointed out that today's Gospel passage teaches how man is sanctified through the storms and trials of life. Christ did not come to offer an external improvement of human life, but to ontologically transform him...

Thanks for sharing. I especially remember how the Bishop said that the ship of the disciples is an image of the Church, which goes through storms, heresies and passions, but does not sink, because the Lord Himself is at the helm. Here in Yaroslavl, too, sometimes there are such “nasty winds,” but the service still brings people together. It’s good to be reminded that faith does not cancel storms, but helps us get through them.
