In Paphos we have a lake for children, but the heat in summer makes the routes more difficult.

Sounds like a great gathering for the kids. Our parish scouts did something similar up at a lake camp years ago — they loved the tracking games but complained about the mosquitoes the whole time. How long does this one run?

Our scouts always griped about the mosquitoes too, especially at evening campfires. This one runs through the weekend, ends Sunday after Liturgy. Did your group ever try the night tracking with flashlights?

Our lot always ended up covered in bites by the second night too, especially around the lake edge. We did try night tracking once with headlamps — half the lads spent more time tripping over roots than finding the trail. Did yours ever add a proper map-and-compass leg to it?

Yeah, the mosquitoes were brutal around the evening fire — we always ended up slapping our necks more than roasting marshmallows. Never tried the flashlight tracking though; how did that go for your group, any decent finds or just a lot of stumbles?

In Paphos, the limnouli sounds like a good idea for children, Zoe. Here in our parts the summer is drier, but the forest walks also become boring when it gets really hot. How do you manage with the kids when the heat hits?

Our parish took the kids to a similar scout camp by the lake a few summers back and the tracking games were a hit, though the mosquitoes drove everyone crazy by dusk. Did your group pack any special repellent that actually worked, or was it all just complaints and calamine lotion?

Our group tried night tracking a couple of times at summer camp near the river. The lads loved spotting animal eyes reflecting back in the beams, but yes, the mosquitoes were thick as soon as the sun dropped. Did you ever add a short silent prayer stop during those night hikes?

We tried a short silent prayer stop on one night hike last year at our parish camp — worked well, the boys actually stayed quiet for once. Those glowing eyes are something else, aren't they? How long were your tracking sessions before the mosquitoes won?

The mosquitoes were awful here too — we ended up sitting in the smoke half the time. Our flashlight tracking went better than expected; the older lads found three proper fox prints before it got too dark. Did your group try any night navigation or just stick to the fire?

We had the same mosquito nightmare at Uvildy last year — nothing kept them off after sunset except thick DEET spray from the pharmacy and long sleeves. The tracking games were worth it though; our boys still talk about finding that fake “treasure” under the pine roots. Did your group try any of the orienteering bits?
