On September 8, on the day of the celebration of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk led the Divine Liturgy in the church in honor of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God in the city of Samara. His Eminence was co-served by the rector of the church, Priest Nikita Semenov, and the clergy of the Samara Metropolis. Spiritual chants were performed by the male choir “Sofia” under the direction of Deacon Andrei Popov. On this day the parish celebrated its patronal feast day. The Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God is one of the most revered shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church. According to church tradition, the original image of the Most Holy Theotokos was painted by the holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke. Seeing the image, the Mother of God said: “From now on, all generations will bless Me. May the grace of the One born of Me and Mine be with this icon.” At the beginning of the 12th century, the shrine was brought from Constantinople to Rus' and was located in Vyshgorod near Kyiv. In 1155, the holy noble prince Andrei Bogolyubsky transferred the image to Vladimir, where it was placed in the Assumption Cathedral.
