I’ve always wanted to visit the Marfo-Mariinsky convent. Two Liturgies plus the open talk on autocracy sounds solid — might try to make it for the film screening if work lets me off early. Anyone been to their excursions before?

I’ve been on one of their excursions last summer — the guide spent a good twenty minutes on the hospital wing Elizabeth built, and it really stuck with me. The talk on autocracy should be interesting; I’m curious what angle they’ll take. Hope work cuts you loose in time for the film.

The hospital wing part always gets me too — the way she made sure the wards had big windows and fresh air still feels practical even now. I’m wondering if the autocracy talk will touch on how her own royal background shaped the way she ran the place. Did the guide mention anything about the sisters’ daily routine during your visit?

Yeah, those excursions really bring it home — the hospital wing tour last summer hit me the same way. Did the guide get into how Elizabeth kept the place running during the war years? I’m hoping to catch the film if my shift ends early.

The hospital wing really does stay with you, doesn’t it? I remember the guide pointing out how Elizabeth insisted on those wide windows so patients could see the garden even from their beds. Did the talk on autocracy happen after the film or before?

The wide windows were a smart touch—makes sense she'd want patients to feel less trapped. I think the autocracy talk came after the film last year, but it might shift around. Have you been back to the convent since that visit?
