The Rohia Monastery in Maramureș County marked on Monday the completion of 100 years of monastic life through a series of religious and cultural events.
The demonstrations began with the Te Deum service, officiated by the Most Reverend Father Timotei Sătmăreanul, Vicar Bishop of the Diocese of Maramureş and Sătmar, as a sign of gratitude for the 100 years of existence of the monastic establishment.
The program continued with the symposium "A century from the foundation of the Saint Ana Rohia Monastery (1926-2026)", during which the Most Reverend Father Iustin, the Bishop of Maramureș and Sătmarău, and the Most Reverend Father Timotei Sătmăreanul gave lectures, together with historians, people of culture and representatives of the central and local authorities.
The works highlighted the role of the Rohia Monastery as a landmark of spiritual, cultural and identity life in Maramureș and in the whole country.
The memorial service was then held in the monastery cemetery for priest Nicolae Gherman, the founder of the settlement, for Monk Nicolae Steinhardt, whose birth was 114 years ago on Wednesday, as well as for all the abbots, founders, benefactors and those who passed on to the Lord.
