The Goethe Medal awarded to Arvo Pärt, the first Estonian so honoredtranslated

The 2026 Goethe Medal was awarded on August 28 in Weimar, the anniversary of the poet's birth, to the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, as well as to the Italian translator Anita Raja and the Greek director Prodromos Tsinikoris. The medals were presented at the Weimarhalle by Gesche Joost, president of the Goethe-Institut; that of Arvo Pärt was received by his son Michael, who chairs the council of the Center
