Koltushian Orthodox Pathfinders visited historical sites in Lesieuxtranslated

The Koltush detachment of the Brotherhood of Orthodox Pathfinders made a trip to Lezye - the former Karelian Yarvosol, known from written sources since 1500.

The trip participants got acquainted with the history of this place and the churches that existed here in different eras. Once upon a time there was a wooden St. Nicholas Church in Lezye, which was destroyed during the Time of Troubles. Today, on a hill stands the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose history is closely connected with the tragic events of the 20th century.

The pathfinders were told about the rector of the church, priest Alexander Vishnyakov, about the fate of the shrine during the years of persecution of the Church and about the events of the Great Patriotic War. In August 1941, not far from the church, soldiers of the 50th airfield service battalion fought an unequal battle, delaying the advance of German troops. During the war, Soviet prisoners of war were kept in the church, and later a German hospital was located here.

After the war, the church was in a ruined state for a long time. Thanks to the efforts of Archpriest Vyacheslav Kharinov and parishioners, the shrine was restored. Currently, there is a military museum in the basement, where finds from the Sinyavinsky Heights and other battle sites are presented.
