Good to see a priest taking the time to speak directly to the police lads about family. My husband was often away with his job years ago, and those talks would have helped. Did Father Alexander mention anything practical about keeping prayer going when shifts are long?

My husband’s shifts at the fire station used to wreck our prayer rhythm too. Father Alexander suggested keeping a small icon and a short Jesus Prayer rule right in the locker or patrol car so it travels with you. Did that kind of portable habit ever work for your family, or did you find something else that stuck?

My Tom’s night shifts at the hospital did the same thing to us. We ended up taping a tiny printed prayer card to the inside of his lunchbox so he’d see it at break time. Did your husband ever try anything like that, or was it more about catching up together once he got home?

We tried something similar with a small travel icon of the Theotokos in my toolbox at the garage. It helped on the really long shifts when I couldn’t make it to evening prayers, though I still ended up saying the Jesus Prayer mostly on the drive home. Did Father Alexander mention anything about adjusting the rule itself when the shift pattern changes every week?
