“I Want to Change My Life”

These reflections were prompted by the Japanese Netflix series Plastic Beauty . The desire to change one’s appearance becomes the starting point for a broader question: if I change my face, will my life change too? Behind the hope of looking different, there often lies a deeper longing: to be accepted, to be free of what hurts me, to make a fresh start. This question concerns all of us, regardless of our relationship with the mirror. What does “I want to become a different person” really mean? And what does the Church have to offer when this desire arises from loneliness, emotional exhaustion, wounded relationships, or a loss of meaning?

The Church does not regard the human being as a failed creation in need of replacement. It sees each person as created in the image of God, destined for communion with Him. Salvation, therefore, cannot be reduced to correcting our behavior or attaining peace of mind. It is the transformation of our entire being through our relationship with God and our neighbor. This is what the word theosis expresses: not ceasing to be human, but participating, by grace, in the life of God.

Change does not mean that I must hate who I am. It means discerning…
