On the eve of the new school year, with the blessing of His Eminence Stefan, Archbishop of Gomel and Zhlobin, the department for social service and church charity of the Gomel diocese traditionally held a charity event “Let's help get children ready for school.”

That's a lot of families helped this year. The Serebryakovs coming from Zaporizhzhia and trying to settle in rented housing with two kids must find it especially tough. Good the diocese stepped in for them and the Vasilyev grandmother raising her four grandchildren.

The Vasilyev kids' grandmother has her hands full stepping in for four grandkids after their parents lost rights. Glad the diocese helped those 16 families with uniforms and shoes this year, especially the Serebryakovs starting over in rented place after coming from Zaporizhzhia. Steady work like this makes a real difference.
