The Republic of Kalmykia celebrated the Day of Slavic Literature and Culture - a holiday dedicated to Saints Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Slavic alphabet and educators of the Slavic peoples. The head of the republic, Batu Khasikov, emphasized the special significance of this day, recalling the spiritual connection of the holy brothers with the Kalmyk land. According to legend, in the 9th century, during their mission, Cyril and Methodius passed through the territory of modern Kalmykia. In the vicinity of Elista they consecrated a spring, which later became known as healing. It is noted that in the Year of the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Savior in Kalmykia, this historical and spiritual continuity takes on special significance. In Elista today, a church is being built in honor of Saints Cyril and Methodius, and the adjacent square is named in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Savior, which symbolically connects different eras of the spiritual history of the region. Batu Khasikov noted that the works of Cyril and Methodius laid the foundations of Slavic writing and played an important role in the formation of a cultural and spiritual space that contributed to the unification of peoples, the development of statehood and the strengthening of interethnic harmony.
