Bishop Partenie Ciopron, the third hierarch of the Bishopric of Balti, was born 130 years ago. He was the successor of Visarion Puiu (1923–1935) and Tit Simedrea (1935–1940).

He was born on September 30, 1896, in Păltiniș, Botoşani county. He took part in the battles of the First World War, being wounded on the Oituz front in 1917.

For the courage he showed during the confrontations, he received the "Commemorative Cross" as a sign of gratitude.

In 1921 he chose the monastic path, becoming a monk at the Slatina Monastery in Suceava county and receiving the name of Partenie. In the same year he was ordained a hierodeacon.

Years of study and service as a hierarch In parallel with the hearings he had at the monastic establishment, he continued his studies between 1922 and 1929 at the "Veniamin" Seminary in Iasi and between 1929-1935 at the Faculty of Theology in Chernivtsi.

In 1936, he defended his doctorate in theology, the topic of the thesis being "The Hierarchy of the Savior Jesus Christ. Exegetical and historical study". Two years before, he was ordained a hieromonk on behalf of the Cathedral of Iași.
