Bishop Iustin at the beginning of the school year: True education begins where information is transformed into culturetranslated

"True education begins where information turns into culture, culture into discernment, and discernment into character," Bishop Iustin of Maramureș and Sătmaru said on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year.

The hierarch urged the students to take advantage of the opportunities offered by education, without neglecting the moral and spiritual dimension of their formation.

"School is not only the place where the child receives information about the world. It must remain one of the vocational places where man learns how to live beautifully in this world: with a mind enlightened by the truth, with a heart open to his neighbor and with a conscience capable of distinguishing good from evil."

"Study thoroughly. Read. Research. Ask questions. Discover science, literature, history, world languages ​​and the great achievements of the culture of inquiry and the human spirit. Use technology and new tools of knowledge wisely. Do not fear the world to come," His Eminence said.

I agree with the bishop. Here in Voronezh, too, many parents drive their children only for grades and the Unified State Examination, but they forget about developing character and distinguishing good from evil. It is especially important that he said about “not being afraid of the world that is coming,” but at the same time not losing conscience. My daughter is just starting first grade this year, we will try to maintain this balance.
