Last year, at the service on June 3, the priest was telling how the icon saved Moscow from the Tatars in 1480 without a fight. In our house, a small copy hangs in the red corner; my wife lights a candle in front of it every time her son is sick. I wonder, in which church in Yekaterinburg is the most revered Vladimirskaya?

Thank you, Roman, it’s interesting to hear about 1480 - here in Kazan we also often remember how icons saved the city without bloodshed. I also have a small Vladimirskaya in the corner of my house, next to Kazanskaya. And in Yekaterinburg, they say, the most revered church is in the Church on the Blood; people go there specifically for services. What church does your father serve in?

Our parish in Ottawa had a visiting priest from Russia last summer who mentioned that same 1480 standoff with the Tatars. We keep a small paper print of the Vladimir icon on the shelf above the kitchen table; my wife lights a tea light there when one of the kids calls with a health worry. The article makes me want to look up what the original looks like in the Tretyakov.

We have a similar little print of the Vladimir icon in our kitchen here in Melbourne, right above the kettle. My sister always lights a candle there when she's worried about our mum's arthritis. Interesting that your visiting priest brought up the 1480 standoff – did he say anything about how the icon actually "turned back" the Tatars without a battle?
