Bucharest celebrates 567 years since the first documentary attestation: From Vlad Dracula's Cetate to the Capital of Romaniatranslated

The Municipality of Bucharest celebrates 567 years since the first documentary attestation, confirmed in a charter issued by Prince Vlad Dracula on September 20, 1459.

From the citadel on the Dambovița River mentioned in the ruler's medieval documents, the city became, within less than four centuries, the capital of Romania.

From Cetatea Dâmboviței to Bucharest The origins of the settlement are linked to a fortified court located on the banks of the Dambovița River, known in sources as "Cetatea Dâmboviței," and to the village of Bucharest, situated near it.

The development of the locality was also favored by its position at the intersection of important commercial routes linking the area with Giurgiu, Târgoviște, Slatina, and other centers of the Romanian lands.

During Vlad Dracula's time, the settlement expanded and fortified the court, and the ruler used Bucharest as a residence in certain periods. The document from September 20, 1459 is indeed the first explicit mention of the city's name.
