The library in Onești, Nadia Comăneci's hometown, organizes a colloquium on the sociology of sporttranslated

The Municipal Library "Radu Rosetti" Onești, the hometown of Nadia Comăneci, will organize, between September 17-18, 2026, the colloquium "The Year of Nadia Comăneci. Sport and social transformations in Romania in the 20th century", informs Agerpres.
The colloquium will be organized in collaboration with the Institute of Sociology of the Romanian Academy, in the context of the Nadia Comăneci Year, established by the Romanian Parliament to mark 50 years since the first 10 in world gymnastics, achieved by the Romanian athlete.
The event will propose an interdisciplinary perspective on the role of sport in shaping the social imaginary, collective identities and public representations of Romania. Researchers, artists, students and teachers as well as local athletes will participate. The colloquium will include conferences, interactive workshops, exhibitions, guided tours and musical evenings.
Ionuț Tenie, Director of the Culture Department of the Onești City Hall, stated that the event will also highlight the status of the municipality as a European City of Sport 2026.
