Around 400 participants join Orthodox Scout camp in Syria

The second General Camp of the Orthodox Scout Gathering opened at the Patriarchal Monastery of St. George Al-Humayrah in Syria, bringing together around 400 participants.

The camp, held from September 17 to 21, 2026, is taking place with the blessing of Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East and in the presence of Metropolitan Romanos Al-Hannat, Patriarchal Vicar.

Participants from Orthodox Scout groups in Damascus and the surrounding areas gathered at the monastery for the opening ceremony.

In his address, Metropolitan Romanos stressed the importance of knowing the origins and roots of the Orthodox Scout movement, noting that its history dates back to 1912 and that it was the first Scout movement established in Syria.

He also welcomed the camp leaders and guests, including Dr. Joseph Zeitoun, an international Scout trainer and former leader of the Second Troop; Edgar Blanc, an international trainer and Deputy General Commissioner of the National Orthodox Scout movement in Lebanon; and Emile Latif, Programs Commissioner of the National Orthodox Scout movement in Lebanon.
