Archimandrite Dionisie Constantin, coordinating patriarchal adviser and director of the Workshops of the Biblical and Orthodox Mission Institute of the Romanian Patriarchate, explained on Monday, at the Chapel of the National Cathedral, what it means to carry the Cross.

"There are realities that we are called to bear, even though we did not choose them: illness, the loss of a close person, the infirmities of age, loneliness or a trial that perhaps no one knows. Carrying such a cross as a Christian does not mean not feeling the pain, but not letting the trial separate us from God and not turning our own pain into malice towards others," said Fr. Dionysius Constantine.

The Archimandrite emphasized that there is a cross that we can take up out of love for our neighbor: "Care for the sick, patience for the one next to us, fidelity and responsibility, forgiveness when we have been wounded. In all of this, it is not the suffering that has value, but the love for which man is able to give himself up."
