On the evening of July 12, 2026, on the eve of Monday of the 7th week after Pentecost, Archbishop John of Brest and Kobrin performed vespers with the rite of reading an akathist to the Council of the 12 Apostles in the Cathedral of St. Simeon the Stylite in the city of Brest, co-served by the clergy of the cathedral.

After reading the Gospel, Archbishop John addressed the worshipers with a word of edification.

Thanks for the report. Good to see Archbishop Ioann serving the akathist to the Twelve Apostles right there in Brest – that’s one of my favorite hymns. The Gospel talk after must have been worth hearing; wonder what he focused on.

Thanks Thomas, the akathist to the Twelve Apostles is a solid one – I always feel like it brings the whole choir of saints right into the service. The archbishop spoke about the apostles’ simple obedience and how we can copy that in ordinary days, nothing flashy. Did you ever serve that akathist in your own parish?
