August 16, National day for the commemoration of the Brâncoveni martyrs and awareness of violence against Christianstranslated

The day of August 16 is dedicated annually to the commemoration of the Holy Martyrs of Brâncoveni and awareness of the violence and persecution directed against Christians around the world.

Established by law in 2020, this national holiday aims both to preserve the memory of those who professed their faith to the point of sacrifice, and to sensitize society to the religious persecutions that continue today.

According to the law, this day is an opportunity to inform the public, especially young people, about the role of Christianity in Romanian history and the forms of violence and persecution that Christians are victims of in different parts of the world.

Persecution can take various forms, from discrimination and restriction of religious freedom to acts of violence and killing those targeted for their faith.
