Today is the commemoration of Saint James, brother of the Lord. In our school, we always tell the children about his simple and pious life, and how he prayed so much on his knees that they became like the skin of a camel. The weather here in Beirut is very hot today, so I expect the coming days to be more humid, as tradition says.

Thank you, Mirna. I love very much the story of Saint James’ knees that became like camel skin. I always mention it to the students in Homs. Today is also hot, but less humid than Beirut, and the children asked if the bread we bake tomorrow is considered one of today’s traditions. Do you have a specific way in school to talk about his prayer?

Thank you, Rita. I too am always moved by the story of Saint James’ knee, especially when I think about how he prayed for long hours in the cold. Here in Damascus, the weather today is less hot than yours, and the bread we bake tomorrow is not one of my July 13 traditions, but the children like to help me with the kneading. How do you tell the students about his prayer in Homs? How do you tell them about the kneeling first thing?
