1) The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. 2) As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: “Behold, I am sending My angel before You, who will prepare Your way before You” (Mal.3:1). 3) “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight’” (Is. 40:3). 4) John was in the desert baptizing and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5) And the whole kingdom of Judah and all the people of Jerusalem came out to him, and were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. 6) And John was dressed in camel hair and a leather belt around his waist, and ate locusts and wild honey. 7) And he preached, saying: “He who is mightier than I is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down to untie; 8) I baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” 9) And it came to pass: in those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10) And as soon as he came out of the water, he saw the heavens opening and the Spirit like a dove descending and remaining on Him. 11) And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son, in You I am well pleased.”
12) And immediately the Spirit leads Him into the wilderness. 13) And He was in the wilderness forty days and forty nights, and was tempted by Satan, and was with the beasts; and Angels served Him. 14) After John was betrayed, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15) and saying: “For the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent and believe in the gospel.” 16) And as he passed near the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting nets into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17) And Jesus said to them: “Follow Me, and I will make you [such] that you will be fishers of men.” 18) And they immediately left their nets and followed Him. 19) And having gone a little way from there, He saw James Zebedee and John his brother also laying nets in the boat; 20) and immediately called them. And they, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the mercenaries, followed Him. 21) And they come to Capernaum; and immediately on the Sabbath, entering the synagogue, he taught them. 22) And they marveled at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. 23) And there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, 24) saying: “What to us and to you, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us? I know who You are, the Holy One of God.” 25) And Jesus rebuked him, saying: “Be silent and come out of the man.” 26) And the unclean spirit, tearing him apart and crying with a great voice, came out of him. 27) And they were all surprised, so that they asked each other: “What is this? What is this new teaching that He commands even the unclean spirits with authority, and they obey Him?” 28) And soon rumors about Him spread throughout all the surrounding areas in Galilee. 29) And soon leaving the synagogue, they came to the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30) Simonov’s mother-in-law was in a fever; and immediately they tell Him about her. 31) And He approached and lifted her up, taking her by the hand; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them. 32) When evening came, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all those who had illnesses and those who had demons. 33) And the whole city was gathered at the doors. 34) And He healed many who suffered from various diseases; and he cast out many demons, and did not allow them to speak, for they knew Him. 35) And getting up very early in the morning, he went out and went into a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36) And Simon and those with him followed him. 37) And when they found Him, they said to Him: “After all, everyone is looking for You.”
38) And He says to them: “Let us go to the neighboring villages and cities, so that I may preach there too, for this is why I came.” 39) And He preached in their synagogues and throughout all Galilee, and cast out demons. 40) And the leper came to Him, begging Him and kneeling before Him, [and] said to Him: “If you want, you can cleanse me.” 41) Jesus, having mercy on him, stretched out His hand; and touching him, he said to him: “I want to, be clean.” 42) And when He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he became clean. 43) And he threatened him, and immediately sent him away, 44) and said to him: “See that you do not tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the high priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” 45) And he went out and began to proclaim and spread the word, so that [Jesus] could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in desert places, and they came to Him from everywhere.
1) And again after [several] days He came to Capernaum; 2) and it was heard that He was in the house, and many had gathered, so that there was no longer room, not even at the door; and He spoke the word to them. 3) And they came to Him carrying a paralytic, whom four were carrying. 4) And since they were unable to bring him in because of the crowd, they dug through the roof [of the house] where He was, and, opening it wide, lowered down the bed on which the paralytic lay. 5) When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic: “Son! Your sins are forgiven." 6) There were some of the scribes there, sitting and thinking in their hearts: 7) “Why does He say this? Blasphemous! Who can forgive sins except God alone?” 8) Jesus, immediately knowing in His spirit that they were thinking this way in themselves, said to them: “Why are you thinking this way in your hearts? 9) What is easier, to say to the paralytic: “Your sins are forgiven you,” or to say: “Get up, take up your bed and walk”? 10) But so that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins,” he says to the paralytic: 11) “I say to you: “Get up, take up your bed and go to your house.”
12) And immediately he stood up and, taking up the bed, walked in front of everyone, so that everyone was amazed and honored God, saying: “We have never seen anything like this.” 13) And [Jesus] went out again to the sea; and all the people went to Him, and He taught them. 14) And as He passed by, He saw Levi Alphaeus sitting at the toll booth, and said to him: “Follow Me.” And he got up and followed Him. 15) And it came to pass, as He reclined in his house, that many tax collectors and sinners reclined with Him and His disciples: for they were many, and they followed Him. 16) And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing that He was eating with publicans and sinners, said to His disciples: “Why does your Teacher eat and drink with publicans and sinners?” 17) Having heard this, Jesus said to them: “Those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but those who have illness; for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” 18) And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting. And they came and said to Him: “Why do the disciples of John and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” 19) And Jesus said to them: “Can the sons of marriage, when the Bridegroom is with them, fast? As long as they have the Bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20) The days will come when the Bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21) No one sews a patch of coarse fabric onto an old vestment, because otherwise the new one attached will be pulled away from the old one, and the hole will be even larger. 22) And no one puts new wine into old wineskins: otherwise the wine will burst the skins, and the wine will leak, and the skins will be lost; but new wine must be put into new wineskins.” 23) And it happened to Him again on the Sabbath to pass through the sown fields, and His disciples began to pass by and pluck the ears of corn. 24) The Pharisees said to Him: “This is why they do on the Sabbath what is not lawful to do?” 25) And He said to them: “Have you never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those who were with him? 26) How did he enter the house of God in the presence of Abiathar the high priest and eat the showbread, which it was not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he gave it to those who were with him?” (see Lev. 24:5–9; 1 Sam. 21:2–7). 27) And he said to them: “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28) So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
1) And he came again to the synagogue; and there was a man who had a withered hand. 2) And they watched Him to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, in order to accuse Him. 3) And He says to the man who had a withered hand: “Stand in the middle.” 4) And He says to them: “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath, or evil? To save a life or to destroy it? And they were silent. 5) And, looking at them with anger, lamenting the blindness of their hearts, he said to the man: “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched out, and his hand was restored. 6) Having gone out, the Pharisees immediately formed a conference with the Herodians against Him, how to destroy Him. 7) Jesus and His disciples withdrew to the sea; and a large crowd from Galilee and Judea followed Him, 8) and [also] from Jerusalem, from Idumea and from beyond the Jordan. And those who [lived] in the vicinity of Tire and Sidon, in great multitudes, heard what He did, and came to Him. 9) And He told His disciples that a boat should be ready for Him because of the crowd, so that He would not be crowded. 10) For He healed many, so that they rushed to Him to touch Him, as many as had wounds.
11) And the unclean spirits, when they saw Him, fell before Him and cried out, saying: 12) “You are the Son of God.” And He strictly forbade them so that they would not make Him known. 13) And going up the mountain, He called to Him whom He wanted; and came to Him. 14) And he caused the twelve to be with Him; and that He would send them to preach. 15) And he gave them power to heal diseases and cast out demons. 16) And he gave Simon the name Peter. 17) And James Zebedee, and John, the brother of James, and called their names Boanerges, that is, “Sons of Thunder,” 18) and Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James Alphaeus, and Thaddeus, and Simon the Canaanite, 19) and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Him. 20) And they come to the house; and again the people gathered, so that it was impossible for them to eat even bread. 21) And when those close to [Him] heard, they came out to take Him, for they said: “For He is in a trance.” 22) And the scribes who came from Jerusalem said: “For He has Beelzebub, and for He casts out demons by the power of the prince of demons.” 23) And he called them and spoke to them in parables: “How can Satan cast out Satan?
24) And if the kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand; 25) and if a house falls apart in itself, that house cannot stand; 26) and if Satan has risen up against himself, he is divided and cannot stand, but his end has come. 27) No one can enter the house of a strong man and plunder his utensils, unless he first binds the strong man, and then he will plunder his house. 28) Truly I say to you, all sins and blasphemies will be forgiven to the sons of men, no matter what they blaspheme; 29) whoever blasphemes the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but he will be guilty of eternal sin.” 30) [Said] because they said: “He has an unclean spirit.” 31) And His mother and brothers came and, standing without, sent to Him those calling for Him, 32) and the people sat around Him. And they said to Him: “Behold, Your Mother and Your brothers, being outside, ask You.” 33) And answering them, he says: “Who are My mother and My brothers?” 34) And, looking around at those sitting around Him, he said: “Behold My mother and My brothers; 35) For whoever does the will of God is My brother, and My sister, and My mother.”
1) And again he began to teach by the sea; and a great crowd gathered to Him, so that He entered into a boat and sat on the sea, and all the people were on the land around the sea. 2) And he taught them in many parables, and said to them in his teaching: 3) “Listen: behold, a sower went out to sow. 4) And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and the birds of the air came and devoured them. 5) Others fell on a rocky place where there was little soil, and quickly sprang up because it did not have deep soil; 6) and when the sun rose, it faded; and, since it had no root, it dried up. 7) And some fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew and choked them, and they did not bear fruit. 8) And some fell on good ground and brought forth fruit that sprang up and grew, and some brought forth thirty, some sixty, and some a hundred.” 9) And he said: “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” 10) And when He was left alone, the Twelve who were with Him asked Him about the parable. 11) And he said to them: “It has been given to you to know the secret of the Kingdom of God, but to those who are outside, everything happens in parables; 12) so that they look with their own eyes and do not see; they hear with their own ears and do not understand, lest they turn and have their sins forgiven.”
13) And he says to them: “Do you not understand this parable? And how will you understand all the parables? 14) He who sows sows the word. 15) Those along the road are where the word is sown, and when they hear, Satan immediately comes and snatches away the word sown in their hearts. 16) And in the same way they are sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy, 17) but have no root in themselves, but are fickle; then, when tribulation and persecution come because of the word, they are immediately offended. 18) And others are what was sown among thorns, these are those who hear the word, 19) but in whom the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and other lusts around them, enter and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20) And those - sown on good soil - who hear the word and receive it, and bear fruit, one thirtyfold, another sixtyfold, another a hundredfold.” 21) And he said to them: “Is a candle brought for this purpose, to put it under a bucket or under a bed? Is it not to put it on a candlestick? 22) For there is nothing hidden that will not come to light, and nothing hidden that will not come out.
23) If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 24) And he said to them: “Mark [videte] what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you, and more will be added to you. 25) For whoever has, to him will be given, but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” 26) And he said: “Such is the kingdom of God, as if a man casts a seed into the ground, 27) and sleeps and rises night and day; and the seed sprouts and grows until he [himself] knows [how]. 28) For the earth continues to bear fruit, yielding first grass, then an ear, then a full grain in the ear. 29) And when she produces fruit, he immediately sends in the sickle, because the harvest has come.” 30) And he said: “What shall we compare the Kingdom of God to? Or what parable can we compare it to? 31) [It] is like a mustard seed, which, when sown into the ground, is smaller than all the seeds that are on the earth; 32) And when it is sown, it comes up and becomes larger than all the grains, and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can live under its shade.” 33) And he preached the word to them in many parables, as far as they could hear; 34) He did not speak to them without a parable, but explained everything to His disciples on the sidelines.
35) And he said to them that day, when evening came: “Let us cross to the other side.” 36) And they sent the people away, and took Him with them as He was in the boat; and other boats were with Him. 37) And a gust of strong wind arose; and the waves beat on the boat, so that it was already filled [with water]. 38) And He was at the stern, sleeping at the head. And they wake Him up and say to Him: “Teacher! Don’t you care that we are perishing?” 39) And, standing up, He rebuked the wind and said to the sea: “Be still, be still.” And the wind stopped, and there was great silence. 40) And he said to them: “Why are you so fearful? Don’t you have faith yet?” And they were afraid with great fear, and said among themselves: “Who is this, do you think that both the wind and the sea obey Him?”
1) And they came to the other shore of the sea, to the country of Gerasenorum. 2) And when He came out of the boat, he immediately met a man who had come out of the tombs, possessed by an unclean spirit, 3) who had a dwelling in the tombs, and no one could even bind him with a chain, 4) because he was often chained with foot stocks and chains, but he broke the chains and broke the stocks, and no one was able to tame him; 5) and always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, screaming and beating against the stones. 6) Seeing Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him, 7) and, crying out with a loud voice, said: “What do you and I have?” e. You care about me/, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I conjure You by God, do not torment me!” 8) For [Jesus] said to him: “Come out, O unclean spirit, from the man.” 9) And he asked him: “What is your name?” And he answered: “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10) And they asked Him a lot, so that He would not send them out of [that] country. 11) There was a large herd of pigs grazing there, near the mountain. 12) And the spirits asked Him, saying: “Send us among the swine, so that we may enter into them.” 13) And immediately Jesus allowed them.
And the unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs; and with great swiftness the herd rushed into the sea, numbering two thousand; and drowned in the sea. 14) Whoever was feeding them ran and told the story in the city and in the fields. And they went out to see what happened. 15) And they come to Jesus, and see him who was possessed by a demon, sitting, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16) And those who saw them told them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and about the pigs. 17) And they began to ask Him to depart from their borders. 18) And when He entered the boat, the demoniac began to ask Him to be with Him. 19) But He did not allow him, but said to him: “Go to your house to yours and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been to you.” 20) And he went and began to preach in the Decapolis what great things Jesus had done to him; and everyone was surprised. 21) And when Jesus again crossed in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered to Him, and He was near the sea.
22) And one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, came and, seeing Him, fell at His feet 23) and begged Him a lot, saying: “For my daughter is about to die; come, lay your hands on her, so that she may be saved and live.” 24) And he went with him, and a large crowd followed him, and pressed him. 25) And the woman, who suffered with hemorrhage for twelve years, 26) and suffered a lot from many doctors, and spent all that she had, and did not receive any benefit, but came to an even worse state - 27) when she heard about Jesus, she came up from behind in the crowd and touched His clothing, 28) for she said: “If I touch His clothing, I will be saved.” 29) And immediately the source of her blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her illness. 30) And immediately Jesus, feeling within Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned to the crowd and said: “Who touched My garment?” 31) And His disciples said to Him: “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and you say, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32) And He looked around to see the one who did this.
33) The woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell before Him, and told Him the whole truth. 34) He said to her: “Daughter! Your faith has saved you; Go in peace and be well from your illness.” 35) While He was still speaking, they came to the ruler of the synagogue, saying: “Your daughter is dead; Why else are you bothering the Teacher?” 36) Jesus, having heard the words spoken, said to the leader of the synagogue: “Do not be afraid, only believe.” 37) And he suffered no one to follow him except Peter, and James, and John, the brother of James. 38) And they came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and He sees confusion, and many mourning and crying out. 39) And, entering, he said to them: “Why are you embarrassed and crying? The girl is not dead, but she is sleeping.” 40) And they laughed at Him. He, having sent everyone away, takes with Him the father and mother of the girl and those who were with Him and enters where the girl lay. 41) And, taking the girl by the hand, he says to her: “Talifa kumi,” which translates: “Maiden,” I tell you, “stand up.” 42) And immediately the girl arose and went, and she was twelve years old. And they were surprised with great amazement. 43) And He strictly ordered them that no one should know about this, and said that they should give her something to eat.
1) And He left from there and came to His fatherland; and His disciples followed Him. 2) And when the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue; and many who heard were amazed at His teaching, saying: “Where did He get all this? And what kind of wisdom was given to Him, and how are such miracles /literally: “powers”/ performed by His hands? 3) Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Josiah, Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here, between us?” And they were offended because of Him. 4) And Jesus said to them: “For a prophet is not without honor except in his own country, and in his own house, and among his relatives.” 5) And he could not perform any miracle there, only laying his hands on a few sick people and healing them. 6) And he was surprised at their unbelief; and walked around the surrounding villages, teaching. 7) And having called twelve, he began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. 8) And he commanded them not to take anything on the road except one staff: no bag, no bread, no copper in their belts, 9) but to put on sandals and not to wear two clothes. 10) And he said to them: “If you enter a house anywhere, stay in it until you leave that place.
11) And if anyone will not receive you and will not listen to you, [then] when you go out from there, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them. 12) And they went and preached that [the people] should do repentance; 13) and cast out many demons, and anointed many sick people with oil, and healed them. 14) And King Herod heard [about Jesus], (for His name had become known), and said: “It is John the Baptist who has risen from the dead, and therefore miracles are done by him.” 15) Others said: “This is Elijah,” and others said: “This is a prophet, like one of the prophets.” 16) When Herod heard this, he said: “This is John, whom I beheaded; he rose from the dead." 17) For this Herod sent and took John and put him in prison for Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her. 18) For John said to Herod: “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19) Herodias plotted against him and wanted to kill him; but she couldn't. 20) For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and protected him; and he did a lot of things in obedience to him, and listened to him with pleasure.
21) And when the opportune day came, Herod, on the occasion of his birthday, made a supper for the princes, and the tribunis [tribunis], and the elders of Galilee - 22) and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, and pleased Herod and those who reclined with him; the king said to the girl: “Ask me what you want, and I will give it to you”; 23) and swore to her: “Whatever you ask of me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.” 24) When she came out, she said to her mother: “What can I ask for?” She answered: “The heads of John the Baptist.” 25) And she immediately went with haste to the king, asking, saying: “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist right now on a platter.” 26) And the king was saddened, [but] for the sake of the oath and those who were reclining with him, he did not want to upset her. 27) But he sent a squire and ordered his head to be brought on a platter. And he beheaded him in prison, 28) and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the maiden, and the maiden gave it to her mother. 29) When his disciples heard this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb. 30) And the apostles came together to Jesus and told Him everything they had done and taught.
31) And He said to them: “Go away to a deserted place and rest a little,” for there were many coming and going, so they had no time to eat. 32) And getting into the boat, they departed into a deserted place. 33) And they saw them departing, and many recognized them; and they fled there on foot from all the cities, and came before them. 34) And Jesus went out and saw a multitude of people and had compassion on them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and began to learn a lot. 35) And since there was already a lot of time, His disciples approached, saying: “The place here is deserted, and the hour is already late, - 36) let them go, so that they can go to the surrounding villages and villages and buy food for themselves, for they have nothing to eat.” 37) And answering, He said to them: “Give them something to eat.” And they said to Him: “Let us go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat.” 38) And he said to them: “How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they found out, they said: “Five, and two fish.” 39) Then He commanded them to arrange everyone in groups to recline on the green grass. 40) And they reclined in rows, hundreds and fifty.
41) And taking the five loaves and two fish, looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to lay before them; and he divided the two fish among everyone. 42) And they all ate and were full. 43) And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and remains, and of the fish. 44) Those who ate were about five thousand men. 45) And immediately he forced his disciples to get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other shore to Bethsaida, while he sent the people away. 46) And when he sent them away, he went up the mountain to pray. 47) And when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land. 48) And I saw them in distress on the voyage (because the wind was against them); and about the fourth watch of the night he approached them, walking on the sea, and wanted to pass them by. 49) And they, seeing Him walking on the sea, thought that it was a ghost, and cried out. 50) For everyone saw Him and were afraid. And immediately he spoke to them and said to them: “Calm down; It is I, do not be afraid.” 51) And he went into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were even more amazed at themselves, 52) for they did not understand the miracle of the loaves, because their hearts were blinded.
53) And when they had crossed over, they arrived in the land of Gennesaret and landed [at the shore]. 54) And when they got out of the boat, they immediately recognized Him 55) and, having ran around that entire neighborhood, they began to carry on their beds those who were not feeling well to where they heard He was. 56) And wherever He came, whether to villages, villages or cities, they laid the sick in the squares and asked Him to touch at least the hem of His clothes; and those who touched Him were saved.
1) And the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem came to Him. 2) And when they saw some of His disciples eating bread with simple, that is, unwashed, hands, they reproached. 3) For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands often, keeping to the tradition of the elders; 4) and, [coming] from the market, if they do not wash themselves, they do not eat. There are many other things that they customarily adhere to: the washing of bowls, and pots, and copper vessels, and beds. 5) And the Pharisees and scribes asked Him: “Why do not Your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with simple hands?” 6) And He answered and said to them: “Isaiah prophesied well about you hypocrites, as it is written: “This people honors Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me, 7) but in vain do they honor Me, teaching the doctrines and commandments of men” (Is. 29:13 - LXX). 8) For you, having abandoned the commandment of God, hold to the tradition of men, the washing of pots and bowls, and many other things like these.” 9) And he said to them: “Is it good that you make the commandment of God null and void in order to keep your tradition?
10) For Moses said: “Honor your father and your mother”; and: “Whoever curses his father or mother, let him die” (Ex. 20:12, 21:17). 11) You say: “If a man says to his father or mother: ‘corban’ (that is, a gift [to God]), whatever you use from me,” 12) and you no longer leave him what to do for his father or mother, 13) abolishing the word of God by your tradition, which you pass on; and you do many similar things.” 14) And, again calling the crowd, he said to them: “Listen to Me, all of you, and understand. 15) There is nothing outside of a person that enters into him that can defile him; but what comes out of a person is what defiles a person. 16) If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!” 17) And when He entered the house from the crowd, His disciples asked Him about the parable. 18) And He said to them: “Are you also slow-witted? [Do you] not understand that everything external, entering a person, cannot defile him? 19) For it does not enter his heart, but goes into his belly and goes out into the privy, cleansing all food.” 20) He said that what comes from a person defiles a person.
21) For from within, from the heart of man, come evil thoughts, adultery, fornication, murder, 22) theft, greed, baseness, deceit, debauchery, the evil eye, blasphemy, pride, stupidity - 23) all this evil comes from within and defiles a person. 24) And he departed from there and came to the borders of Tire and Sidon; and, entering the house, he wanted no one to know; and could not hide. 25) For the woman, whose daughter was possessed by an unclean spirit, immediately heard about Him, came in and fell at His feet. 26) For the woman was a pagan, a Syrophoenician by birth. And she prayed to Him to cast out the demon from her daughter. 27) He said to her: “First let the children be satisfied, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28) And she answered and said to Him: “Yes, Lord; but puppies under the table also eat children’s crumbs.” 29) And he said to her: “For the sake of this word, go; The demon has come out of your daughter.” 30) And when she came to her house, she found her daughter lying on the bed, and [that] the demon had gone out. 31) And Jesus again leaving the borders of Tire, went again through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, [which] is in the middle of the borders of the Decapolis.
32) They brought to Him a deaf and dumb man, and asked Him to lay His hand on him. 33) And taking him aside from the people, He put His fingers into their ears; and he spat and touched his tongue; 34) and, looking up to heaven, sighed and said to him: “Ephphatha,” that is, “open up.” 35) And immediately his ears were opened and the bonds of his tongue were loosed, and he began to speak correctly. 36) And he commanded them not to tell anyone. The more He forbade them, the more they divulged it. 37) And they marveled all the more, saying: “He does everything well: he makes the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.”
1) In those days, when there were again many people and did not have anything to eat, He called the disciples and said to them: 2) “I have mercy on the people, for, behold, they have been with Me for three days now and do not have anything to eat. 3) And if I send them away hungry to their house, they will weaken on the way, for some of them have come from afar.” 4) His disciples answered Him: “Where could anyone get bread here, in a remote place, to satisfy them?” 5) And he asked them: “How many loaves do you have?” They said: "Seven." 6) And he ordered the people to lie down on the ground. And taking the seven loaves, having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to lay before them; and they laid it out before the people. 7) They also had a few fish: he blessed them and ordered them to be laid out. 8) And they ate and were full; and they took up the remaining pieces into seven baskets. 9) There were about four thousand who ate. And he let them go. 10) And immediately getting into the boat with His disciples, he came to the borders of Dalmanutha. 11) And the Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him, demanding from Him a sign from heaven, tempting Him. 12) And He, groaning in [His] spirit, said: “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
13) And leaving them, he again entered the boat and went to the other side. 14) And they forgot to take the loaves, and except for one loaf they did not have with them in the boat. 15) And He commanded them, saying: “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16) And they reasoned among themselves, saying: “[This means] that we have no bread.” 17) Having realized this, Jesus said to them: “Why do you argue that you have no loaves? Do you still not understand and understand? Is your heart still blinded? 18) Having eyes, don’t you see? And having ears, do you not hear? And don’t you remember 19) that when I broke five loaves for five thousand people, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up?” They say to Him: “Twelve.” 20) “And when there are seven for four thousand, how many baskets did you pick up of the remaining pieces?” They said: “Seven.” 21) And he said to them: “How come you still don’t understand?!” 22) And he comes to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and they prayed to Him that He might be touched. 23) And taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the village and, spitting in his eyes, laid His hands on him and asked him if he saw anything. 24) And he looked and said: “I see people like trees [but] passing by.”
25) Then He again laid His hands on his eyes. And he began to see, and recovered so that he began to see everything clearly. 26) And he sent him home to him, saying: “Go to your house, and if you go into the village, do not tell anyone.” 27) And Jesus went with His disciples to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And along the way He asked His disciples: “Who do people say that I am?” 28) They answered Him, saying: “For John the Baptist; others for Elijah; others - for one of the prophets." 29) Then He says to them: “Who do you say that I am?” Answering, Peter said to Him: “You are the Christ.” 30) And he forbade them not to speak about Him to anyone. 31) And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed, and on the third day rise again. 32) And he spoke in open words. And Peter, taking Him, began to rebuke Him. 33) He, turning and seeing His disciples, rebuked Peter, saying: “Follow Me, Satan, because you do not philosophize about the things of God, but about the things of men.”
34) And calling the people with His disciples, He said to them: “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35) For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Me and the Gospel will save it. 36) For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? 37) Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 38) For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.” 39) And he said to them: “Truly I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come with power.”
1) And after six days Jesus took Peter, James and John, and led them alone up to a high mountain, and was transfigured before them. 2) And His clothes became shining and very white, like snow, as a bleacher on earth cannot bleach. 3) And Elijah and Moses appeared to them; and they were talking to Jesus. 4) And Peter answered and said to Jesus: “Rabbi! It's good for us to be here; And we will make three tents: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5) For he did not know what he said; because they were terrified with fear. 6) And a cloud appeared overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying: “This is My beloved Son; Listen to him." 7) And immediately looking around, they saw no one else except Jesus alone with them. 8) When they came down from the mountain, He did not tell anyone to tell what they had seen, but only when the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 9) And they kept [this] word among themselves, asking [each other] what it meant when he rose from the dead.
10) And they asked Him, saying: “How then do the Pharisees and scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 11) He answered and said to them: “Elijah, when he comes first, will restore everything; and as it is written of the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be humiliated. 12) But I tell you that Elijah also came, and they did to him as they wanted, as it was written about him.” 13) And coming to the disciples, he saw many people around them and scribes arguing with them. 14) And immediately all the people, when they saw Him, were amazed and afraid, and ran up and greeted Him. 15) And he asked them: “What are you arguing about with each other?” 16) And answering, one of the crowd said: “Teacher, I have brought to You my son, who has a dumb spirit: 17) who, wherever he seizes him, throws him to the ground, and he emits foam, and grinds his teeth, and becomes numb. And I spoke to Your disciples to drive him out, but they could not.” 18) He answered him and said: “O faithless generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I tolerate you? Bring him to Me." 19) And they brought him. As soon as [the demoniac] saw Him, the spirit shook him; and he was thrown to the ground, lying around, emitting foam.
20) And [Jesus] asked his father, “How long has it been since this happened to him?” And he said: “Since childhood; 21) and repeatedly threw him into the fire and into the waters to destroy him; but, if you can, help us, have pity on us.” 22) Jesus said to him: “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 23) And immediately, exclaiming, the boy’s father said with tears: “I believe, Lord! Help my unbelief." 24) And when Jesus saw that the people were running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to him: “This spirit is dumb and deaf! I command you, come out of it and do not enter it again.” 25) And, having cried out and severely tormented him, he went out; and he became as if dead, so that many said: “He is dead.” 26) Jesus took him by the hand and raised him up; and he rebelled. 27) And as He entered the house, His disciples secretly asked Him: “Why could we not drive him out?” 28) And he said to them: “This generation cannot come out in any other way except through prayer and fasting.” 29) And going out from there, they passed through Galilee; and He didn't want anyone to find out.
30) He taught His disciples and said to them: “For the Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and he who was killed will rise on the third day.” 31) But they did not understand the word, and were afraid to ask Him. 32) And they came to Capernaum. And when they were in the house, he asked them: “What were you talking about on the way?” 33) And they were silent; for on the way they argued among themselves which of them was greater. 34) And he sat down, called the twelve and said to them: “If anyone wants to be first, let him be last of all and servant of all.” 35) And taking the child, he placed him in the midst of them, and when he embraced him, he said to them: 36) “Whoever receives one of these children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.” 37) John answered Him, saying: “Teacher! We have seen one casting out demons in Your name, who does not follow us; and they forbade him." 38) Jesus said: “Do not forbid him, for there is no one who can do a miracle in My name and will soon be able to speak ill of Me. 39) For whoever is not against you is for you.
40) For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you are Christ’s, truly I tell you, will not lose his reward. 41) But whoever causes one of these little ones to stumble who believe in Me, it would be much better for him if a millstone driven by donkeys were placed tightly around his neck and thrown into the sea. 42) And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into life crippled than, having two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire, 43) where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. 44) And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off: it is better for you to enter into eternal life lame than, having two feet, to be cast into hell with unquenchable fire, 45) where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. 46) And if your eye offends you, pluck it out: it is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with one eye than, having two eyes, to be cast into fiery hell, 47) where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched. 48) For everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt. 49) Salt is a good thing; but if the salt is not salty, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace among yourselves.”
1) And, rising from there, he comes to the borders of Judea beyond the Jordan. And again a crowd gathered to Him, and, as usual, He taught them again. 2) And the Pharisees came and asked Him: “Is it permissible for a husband to let his wife go?” - tempting Him. 3) And He answered and said to them: “What did Moses command you?” 4) They said: “Moses allowed the divorce certificate to be written and released.” 5) Jesus, answering them, said: “Because of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote you this commandment. 6) At the beginning of creation, God “created them male and female” (Gen. 1:27). 7) For this reason “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8) and the two will become one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh” (Gen. 2:24). 9) Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate.” 10) And in the house His disciples asked Him the same thing again. 11) And he says to them: “Whoever lets his wife go and takes another commits adultery against her. 12) And if a wife lets her husband go and marries another, she commits adultery.” 13) And they brought small [children] to Him so that He could touch them; The disciples rebuked those who brought them.
14) When He saw them, Jesus was indignant and said to them: “Suffer the little [children] to come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God. 15) Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will not enter into it.” 16) And he embraced them and laid his hands on them, and blessed them. 17) And when He set out on the road, someone ran up and fell on his knees before Him and asked Him: “Good Teacher! What must I do to inherit eternal life?” 18) Jesus said to him: “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 19) You know the commandments: do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not commit deception, honor your father and mother.” 20) And he answered and said to Him: “Teacher! I have observed all this from my youth.” 21) Jesus looked at him, loved him and said to him: “You lack one thing: go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” 22) He was saddened by the word and went away grieving, because he had great possessions.
23) And, looking around, Jesus said to His disciples: “How difficult it is for those who have money to enter the Kingdom of God!” 24) The disciples were horrified at His words. But Jesus, answering again, says to them: “Little children! How difficult it is for those who trust in money to enter the Kingdom of God! 25) It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.” 26) They were even more amazed, saying to each other: “Who can be saved?” 27) And Jesus looked at them and said: “With men this is impossible, but not with God, for with God all things are possible.” 28) And Peter began to say to Him: “Behold, we have left everything and followed You.” 29) Answering, Jesus said: “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for My sake and for the sake of the gospel, 30) who has not received so much, a hundredfold, now in this time, houses, and brothers, and sisters, and fathers, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecution, and in the age to come, eternal life. 31) But many who are first will be last, and those who are last will be first.”
32) Now they were on the way, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus went before them, but they were terrified and, following [behind], they were afraid. And again, taking twelve, He began to tell them about what was about to happen to Him: 33) “For, behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes and elders, and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles, 34) and they will mock Him, and spit on Him, and will scourge Him, and kill Him; and on the third day he will rise again.” 35) And the sons of Zebedee, James and John, came to Him, saying: “Teacher! We desire that whatever we ask, You will do for us.” 36) And He said to them: “What do you want me to do to you?” 37) They said to Him: “Grant us that one may sit on Your right hand, and the other on Your left, in Your glory.” 38) Jesus said to them: “You do not know what you ask. Can you drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” 39) And they said to Him: “We can.”
Jesus said to them: “Behold, you will drink the cup that I drink, and you will be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized; 40) to sit on My right hand or on My left side, it is not for Me to grant you, but for whom it is prepared.” 41) And when the ten heard it, they began to be angry with James and John. 42) Jesus called them and said to them: “You know that those who are considered chief among the nations rule over them, and their princes have authority over them. 43) Let it not be so among you: but whoever wants to be great, let him be your servant; 44) and whoever wants to be first among you must be slave to everyone. 45) For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.” 46) And they come to Jericho. And when He came out from Jericho, and His disciples, and the multitude of people, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus the blind, sat by the road, begging [alms]. 47) When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout and say: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48) And many forced him to shut up. And he began to shout even more: “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49) And Jesus stopped and ordered to call him.
And they call the blind man, saying to him: “Calm down, get up, He is calling you.” 50) He threw off his outer clothing, jumped up [and] came to Him. 51) And Jesus answered and said to him: “What do you want me to do to you?” The blind man said to Him: “Rabbi! To see the light." 52) Jesus said to him: “Go, your faith has saved you.” And he immediately received his sight and followed Him on the journey.
1) And when they approached Jerusalem and Bethany, to the Mount of Olives, He sends two of His disciples 2) and says to them: “Go to the village that is directly opposite you; and immediately entering it, you will find a tied donkey, which no one has ever sat on; untie him and bring him. 3) And if someone says to you: “What are you doing?” - say that the Lord needs him; and will immediately release him here.” 4) And as they went, they found a colt tied at the door outside, at the crossroads of two ways; and untied him. 5) And some of those standing there said to them: “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6) They answered them as Jesus commanded them; and they let them go. 7) And they brought the colt to Jesus, and put their clothes on it; and He sat on it. 8) Many spread their clothes along the road; others cut branches from trees and spread them along the road. 9) Both those who preceded and those who followed exclaimed, saying: “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! ( Ps. 119:25–26 ). 10) Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest! 11) And He entered Jerusalem into the church; and, having examined everything around, as it was already evening, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. 12) And the next day, when they left Bethany, He became hungry. 13) And when he saw from afar a fig tree covered with leaves, he went to see if he would suddenly find something on it; and when he came to her, he found nothing but leaves, for there were no figs. 14) And answering, he said to her: “From now on, let no one eat fruit from you forever!” And His disciples heard. 15) And they came to Jerusalem. And when he entered the church, he began to drive out those who were selling and buying in the church; and he changed the tables, and overturned the seats of the selling pigeons; 16) and did not allow anyone to carry a vessel through the church. 17) And He taught, saying to them: “Is it not written: “For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations”? But you made it a den of thieves” (Isa.56:7; Jer.7:11). 18) When the scribes and high priests heard this, they sought how to destroy Him, for they feared Him, because all the people were amazed at His teaching. 19) And when evening came, He went out of the city. 20) And when they passed by in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had become dry from the roots.
21) And, remembering, Peter said to Him: “Rabbi! Behold, the fig tree which You cursed is withered.” 22) And, answering, Jesus says to them: “Have faith in God. 23) Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain, “Be taken up and thrown into the sea,” and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that it will come to pass, whatever he says will be done for him. 24) Therefore I say to you: whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and it will come to you. 25) And when you stand in prayer, forgive if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven may forgive you your sins. 26) But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive you your trespasses.” 27) And they came again to Jerusalem. And as He walked in the church, the chief priests and scribes and elders came to Him, 28) and said to Him: “By what authority are You doing this? And who gave You this power that You should do this?” 29) Jesus answered and said to them: “I will also ask you one word; answer Me; and I will tell you by what authority I do this. 30) Was the Baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me."
31) And they reasoned among themselves, saying: “If we say: “from heaven,” He will say: “Why didn’t you believe him?” 32) If we say: “from men,” we are afraid of the people, because everyone believes that John was truly a prophet.” 33) And they answered and said to Jesus, “We don’t know.” And Jesus answered and said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
1) And he began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard and surrounded it with a fence, and dug a winepress, and built a tower, and rented it out to farmers, and went into a far country. 2) And at [his] time he sent a slave to the farmers to receive from the farmers some of the fruits of the vineyard. 3) They grabbed him, beat him, and sent him away empty-handed. 4) And again he sent another slave to them; and they broke his head and brought dishonor upon him. 5) And again he sent another: they killed him too; and many others, some of whom were beaten and others killed. 6) Having another beloved son, he sent him to them finally, saying: “For they will honor my son.” 7) The employers said to each other: “This is the heir; Let’s go, kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.” 8) And they seized him, killed him and threw him out of the vineyard. 9) What will the owner of the vineyard do?” - “He will come and defeat the employers, and give the vineyard to others.” 10) “Have you not read this in the Scripture: “The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; 11) this came from the Lord, and is wonderful in our eyes?”” (Ps. 118:22).
12) And they sought to seize Him, but they were afraid of the people, for they realized that he had spoken this parable about them. And leaving Him, they went away. 13) And they sent to Him some of the Pharisees and Herodians, so that they would catch Him at his word. 14) They came and said to Him: “Teacher! We know that You are true and do not care about [pleasing] anyone, for You do not look at human appearance, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it permissible to give tribute to Caesar, or not to give?” 15) He, knowing their wickedness, said to them: “Why are you tempting Me? Bring Me a denarius so that I can see.” 16) And they brought it to Him. And he says to them: “Whose image is this and the inscription?” They say to Him: “Caesar’s.” 17) Jesus answered and said to them, “Render therefore what is Caesar’s to Caesar, and what is God’s to God.” And they were surprised about Him. 18) And the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, saying: 19) “Teacher! Moses wrote to us: “If anyone’s brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no children, his brother is to take his wife and restore seed to his brother” (Deut. 25:5-6). 20) There were seven brothers: and the first took a wife and died, leaving no seed.
21) And the second took her, and died, and he left no seed; and the third - in a similar way. 22) And in like manner the seven took her for themselves, and left no seed. The last of all to die was his wife. 23) So, in the resurrection, when they rise again, which of them will she be the wife of? For seven had her as a wife.” 24) And Jesus answered and said to them: “Is this not why you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures or the power of God? 25) For when they rise from the dead, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but will be like angels in heaven. 26) About the dead, that they will rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, how God said to him at the bush: “I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”? ( Ex. 3:6 ). 27) He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. So, you are very mistaken." 28) And one of the scribes, who had heard them arguing, came up and, seeing that Jesus answered them well, asked Him which was the first of all the commandments. 29) Jesus answered him: “For the first of all commandments is: “Hear, O Israel!
The Lord your God is one God; 30) and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Deut. 6:4) - this is the first commandment! 31) The second is similar to it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Lev.19:18). There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32) And the scribe said to Him: “Okay, Teacher! In truth you said that there is only God, and there is no other besides Him. 33) And that He must be loved with all the heart, and with all the soul, and with all the mind, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself—more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34) Jesus, seeing that he answered wisely, said to him: “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And no one dared to ask Him anymore. 35) And Jesus answered and said, teaching in the church: “How do the scribes say that Christ is the Son of David? 36) For David himself said in the Holy Spirit: “The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool” (Ps. 109:1). 37) So David himself calls Him Lord: and how then is He His Son?” And many people listened to Him with pleasure.
38) And He spoke to them in His teaching: “Beware of the scribes, who love to walk in long robes and greetings in the marketplaces, 39) to sit in the first seats in the synagogues and recline in the first [place] at suppers, 40) who consume the houses of widows under the cover of long [prolixae] prayers, they will receive greater [prolixius] condemnation.” 41) And Jesus sat down opposite the treasury and watched as the people threw coppers into the treasury. And many rich people gave up a lot. 42) When a certain poor widow came, she cast in two mites, which is a coin. 43) And calling His disciples, He said to them: “Truly I say to you, this poor widow threw in more than all those who put into the treasury, 44) for everyone threw out of their abundance, but she, out of her lack, put in all that she had, all that she had to live on.”
1) And when He left the church, one of His disciples said to Him: “Teacher! Look at the stones and the buildings!” 2) And Jesus answered and said to him: “Do you see all these great buildings? There will not be left [here] stone upon stone that will not be destroyed.” 3) And when He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the church, Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew asked Him privately: 4) “Tell us, when will this be? And what will be the sign that all this will begin to happen?” 5) And Jesus answered and began to say to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you, 6) for many will come in My name, saying that it is I; and they will deceive many. 7) When you hear about wars and rumors of war, do not be afraid: for this must happen, but this is not the end. 8) For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be earthquakes in places and famine. This is the beginning of sorrows. 9) But you look after yourself. For you will be handed over to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues, and you will appear before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them. 10) And the Gospel must first be preached to all nations.
11) When you are brought before the court, do not think in advance what you will say; but whatever is given to you in that hour, then speak, for it will not be you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12) Brother will betray brother to death, and father his son; and children will rise up against their parents and betray them to death. 13) And you will be hated by everyone for My name’s sake; he who endures to the end will be saved. 14) When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing where it should not be - let the reader understand - then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains; 15) But let him who is on the roof not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house; 16) and whoever is in the field, let him not turn back to take his clothes. 17) Woe to pregnant and nursing mothers in those days. 18) Pray that [this] will not be in winter. 19) Those days will be such tribulations as have not been from the beginning of creation, which God created, even to this day, and never will be. 20) And if the Lord had not shortened [those] days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect whom He chose, He shortened [those] days. 21) And then, if someone tells you: “Behold, here is Christ,” “Behold, there,” do not believe it.
22) For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 23) You must be careful. Behold, I told you everything in advance. 24) But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will darken, and the moon will not give its radiance, 25) and the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers that are in the sky will be shaken. 26) And then they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with much power and glory. 27) And then He will send His angels and gather His elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth even to the ends of heaven. 28) From the fig tree you will learn a parable. When its branches become soft and put out leaves, you will know that summer is near. 29) So you too, when you see this coming true, know that there is something nearby, at the door. 30) Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have happened. 31) Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. 32) No one knows about that day or hour, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33) Watch, watch, pray, for you do not know when [that] time will come.
34) Just as a man, going to a distant country, left his home, and gave his servants authority to do everything, and ordered the gatekeeper to watch. 35) Therefore, watch, for you do not know when the owner of the house will come: in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning; 36) lest he come suddenly and find you sleeping. 37) What I say to you, I say to everyone: stay awake.”
1) It was Passover and Unleavened Bread in two days. And the chief priests and scribes were looking for how to take Him by cunning and kill Him. 2) They said: “Not on a holiday, so long as there is no indignation among the people.” 3) And while He was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, and was reclining, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment made of pure, precious nard, and breaking the alabaster flask, she poured it on His head. 4) There were some who were indignant among themselves: “Why was such a waste of the world done? 5) For this ointment can be sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they shouted at her. 6) Jesus said: “Leave her alone; Why are you bothering her? She did a good deed for Me. 7) For you always have the poor with you and, whenever you want, you can do them good; You don't always have me. 8) She did what she could: she prepared to anoint My body for burial. 9) Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel will be preached throughout the whole world, what she did will be told in memory of her.” 10) And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them.
11) When they heard, they were glad and promised to give him money from themselves. And he looked for how to betray Him at a convenient time. 12) On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they killed the Passover, His disciples said to Him: “Where do you want us to go and prepare food for You, so that you may eat the Passover?” 13) And he sends two of his disciples and says to them: “Go into the city; and you will meet a man carrying a pitcher of water; follow him 14) and where he enters, tell the owner of that house: “For the Teacher says: “Where is My chamber, in which I can eat the Passover with My disciples?” 15) And he will show you a large refectory, furnished: and there prepare for us.” 16) And his disciples went and came into the city, and found it as he had told them; and prepared Passover. 17) When evening came, He came with the twelve. 18) And as they reclined and ate, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, one of you who eats with Me will betray Me.” 19) And they began to grieve and began to say to Him, one after another: “Isn’t it I?” 20) He answered and said to them, “One of the twelve who dips his hand in the dish with Me.
21) And, moreover, the Son of Man comes, as it is written about Him; woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that person not to have been born!” 22) And while they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them, and said: “Take; this is My Body." 23) And he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them: and they all drank from it. 24) And he said to them: “This is My Blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many. 25) Truly I say to you, I will drink no more of this fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26) And having sung a song, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27) And Jesus said to them: “You will all be offended because of Me this night; for it is written: “I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered” (Zech. 13:7). 28) But after I have risen, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29) Peter said to Him: “Even if all are offended because of You, yet not I.” 30) And Jesus said to him: “Truly I say to you, today, this night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” 31) But he said with even greater effort: “Even though I had to die with You, I will not renounce You.”
Everyone said the same thing. 32) And they came to a property called Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33) And he took with him Peter, James and John; and began to be horrified and sad. 34) And he said to them: “My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay here and watch.” 35) And when he had gone a little way, he fell to the ground; and prayed that, if possible, His hour would pass; 36) and said: “Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; carry this cup past Me; but not what I want, but what You want.” 37) And he comes and finds them sleeping. And he says to Peter: “Simon! Are you sleeping? Couldn't you stay awake for one hour? 38) Watch and pray so as not to fall into temptation: the spirit, for its part, is determined, but the flesh is weak.” 39) And he went away again and prayed, saying the same word. 40) And when he returned, he found them sleeping again (for their eyes were heavy), and they did not know what to answer Him. 41) And he comes a third time and says to them: “Are you still sleeping and resting? Enough, the hour has come: behold, the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 42) Get up, let's go; Behold, he who betrays Me is near.”
43) And immediately, as He was still speaking, Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, comes, and with him a large crowd with swords and staves, from the high priests and scribes and elders. 44) The one who betrayed Him gave them a sign, saying: “Whomever I kiss, He is the One; take Him and lead him carefully.” 45) And when he arrived, he immediately approached Him and said: “Rejoice, Rabbi!” And kissed Him. 46) And they laid hands on Him and took Him. 47) One of those standing there, drawing his sword, struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. 48) And Jesus answered and said to them: “As if you came out against a thief with swords and staves to take Me? 49) Every day I was with you in the church, teaching, and you did not take Me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” 50) Then His disciples left Him and all fled. 51) A certain young man followed Him, wrapped in a veil over his naked body; and grab him. 52) But he, leaving the veil, ran away from them naked. 53) And they brought Jesus to the high priest; and all the priests and scribes and elders gathered together. 54) Peter followed Him from afar, even into the courtyard of the high priest; and sat with the servants by the fire and warmed himself.
55) The chief priests and the whole council sought testimony against Jesus in order to put Him to death; and were not found. 56) For many bore false witness against Him, but the evidence was not sufficient. 57) And some stood up and bore false witness against Him, saying: 58) “For we heard Him say: “I will destroy this church made with hands, and after three days I will build another, not made with hands.” 59) And their testimony was not sufficient. 60) And the high priest, standing in the midst, asked Jesus, saying: “Do you not answer anything when they testify against you?” 61) He was silent and did not answer anything. Again the high priest asked Him and said to Him: “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed God?” 62) Jesus said: “I am; and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” 63) The high priest tore his clothes and said: “Why else do we want witnesses? 64) You heard blasphemy; what do you think?” They all condemned Him, finding Him guilty of death. 65) And some began to spit on Him and, covering His face, struck Him and said to Him: “Prophesy.”
And the servants struck Him on the cheeks. 66) And while Peter was in the courtyard below, one of the high priest’s maids came 67) and when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “And you were with Jesus of Nazareth.” 68) But he denied, saying: “I do not know and do not understand what you are saying.” And he went out in front of the courtyard; and the rooster crowed. 69) Seeing him again, the maid began to say to those standing around: “For this one is one of them.” 70) He denied again. And, after a little, those standing here said to Peter: “You are definitely one of them; for you are also a Galilean.” 71) He began to curse and swear: “For I do not know this Man of whom you speak.” 72) And immediately the rooster crowed again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus said to him: “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And he started crying.
1) And immediately, in the morning, having held a meeting, the chief priests with the elders and scribes and the whole council, having bound Jesus, took him away and handed him over to Pilate. 2) And Pilate asked Him: “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered and said to him: “You speak.” 3) And the chief priests accused Him of many things. 4) Pilate asked Him again, saying: “Do you answer nothing? Look how many [things] you are accused of.” 5) Jesus again did not answer, so Pilate was surprised. 6) On the holiday, he had the custom of releasing one prisoner to them, no matter who they asked for. 7) There was a certain man, called Barabbas, in ties with the rebels, who committed murder during the rebellion. 8) And when the crowd came, they began to ask Pilate for what he had always done for them. 9) Pilate answered them and said: “Do you want me to release the King of the Jews to you?” 10) For he knew that the chief priests had betrayed Him out of envy. 11) The high priests stirred up the crowd to ask that Barabbas be released to them. 12) Pilate, answering again, said to them: “What do you want me to do to the King of the Jews?” 13) And they shouted again: “Crucify Him.”
14) Pilate said to them: “What evil has He done?” And they shouted even more loudly: “Crucify Him.” 15) Pilate, wanting to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and handed over Jesus, beaten with whips, to be crucified. 16) The soldiers took Him inside the courtyard of the praetorium, and called the whole cohort, 17) and dressed Him in scarlet, and plaited Him with a crown of thorns. 18) And they began to greet Him: “Hail, King of the Jews!” 19) And they beat His head with a reed, and spat on Him, and, kneeling down, they bowed to Him. 20) And after they had mocked Him, they took off His scarlet robe, and clothed Him with His own garments, and led Him out to crucify Him. 21) And they forced a certain Simon of Cyrene, coming from the countryside, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to take His cross. 22) And they brought Him to the place of Golgotha, which is translated “Place of Execution” [Calvariae locus]. 23) And they gave Him wine and myrrh to drink; and He did not accept. 24) And having crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them, who should take what. 25) It was three o’clock; and crucified Him. 26) And the inscription of His guilt was written: “King of the Jews.”
27) And with Him they crucified two thieves: one on His right and the other on His left. 28) And the Scripture was fulfilled, saying: “And he is numbered with the wicked” (Is. 53:12). 29) And those passing by cursed Him, nodding their heads and saying: “Hey! Destroying the church, and in three days Rebuilding! 30) Save Yourself by coming down from the cross.” 31) Likewise, the high priests and the scribes mocked each other and said to each other: “He saved others, but he cannot save himself. 32) Let Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” And those who were crucified with Him reviled Him. 33) And when the sixth hour came, darkness came over all the earth until the ninth hour. 34) And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Eloi! Eloi! Lamma sabachthani? - which means: “My God! My God! Why have you forsaken me? (Ps. 21:2). 35) And some of those standing there heard it and said, “Behold, he is calling Elijah.” 36) One ran and filled a sponge with vinegar, wrapped it around a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying: “Wait, let’s see if Elijah comes to take Him down.” 37) Jesus cried out with a loud voice and gave up the ghost.
38) And the curtain of the church was torn in two, even from top to bottom. 39) When the centurion who stood opposite [Him] saw that He had given up the ghost after having cried thus, he said: “Truly, this man was the Son of God.” 40) There were [there] also [from among] women looking from afar: of whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and Joseph, and Salome, 41) [who] even while He was in Galilee, followed Him and served Him, and many others who came with Him to Jerusalem. 42) And when evening had already come (because it was Friday, that is, [the day] before Saturday), 43) Joseph came from Arimathea, a noble decurion [decurio], who himself was looking forward to the Kingdom of God, and boldly went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44) Pilate was surprised that He was already dead. And calling the centurion, he asked him if He was already dead. 45) And when he heard from the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph. 46) Joseph bought a shroud and took Him off, wrapped him in the shroud, and laid Him in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock, and rolled the stone to the door of the tomb. 47) Mary Magdalene and Mary Joseph looked where they laid Him.
1) And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary of James and Salome bought spices, that they might go and anoint Jesus. 2) And very early, on the first [day of the week] Saturday, they come to the tomb, already at sunrise, 3) and say to each other: “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” 4) And, looking, they see the stone rolled away. And he was quite big. 5) And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right, dressed in a white robe; and were horrified. 6) He says to them: “Do not be alarmed; You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, crucified; He has risen, He is not here. This is the place where they laid Him. 7) But go, tell His disciples and Peter that He is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see Him, just as He told you.” 8) And they came out and ran from the tomb; for trembling and horror seized them, and they did not say anything to anyone, for they were afraid. 9) Having risen early on the first [day of the week] Saturday, he first appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom he cast out seven demons. 10) She, walking, announced to those who were with Him, crying and sobbing; 11) but when they heard that He was alive and was seen by her, they did not believe.
12) After this he appeared to two of them on the road, when they were going to the village, in a different form. 13) And they went and told the others; and they didn’t believe them. 14) Finally, he appeared to the eleven themselves as they reclined, and reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw Him risen. 15) And he said to them: “Going into all the world, preach the gospel to every creature. 16) Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17) These signs will follow those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18) they will take snakes; and if they drink anything deadly, it will not harm them; They will lay hands on the sick, and they will feel well.” 19) And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken with them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20) They set out and preached everywhere, with the Lord’s assistance and strengthening the word with subsequent signs.
