when writing his article “On Asceticism”. Wanderer. 1897. June–July, pp. 217–229. This article briefly examines, in the spirit, as stated, the beliefs of Arch. Ambrose, refutes the objections of “opponents of the ascetic life,” directed mainly “against bodily exploits.” 1335 Rev. Tikhon seeks to highlight the idea that “ascetics do not go against nature and its legal demands, but against its disorder and especially against the corrupted will of man, unable to keep it within proper limits while satisfying his needs.” 1336 In part, the author also has in mind objections regarding the removal, “detachment of ascetics from the world” 1337 and, as a result, “their uselessness for society.” 1338
