The Sermon on the Mount of the Lord Savior is recorded with particular completeness in the Gospel. It was a special, wonderful day in the life of the Savior and in the history of the Christian Church. Before this day, the Lord prayed the whole night (Luke 6:12). “When the day had come, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them” (Luke 6:13). “And he went down with them and stood on a level place, and many of His disciples, and many people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the seaside regions of Tyre and Sidon, who came to listen to Him and to be healed of their illnesses, and also those suffering from unclean spirits, were healed” (Luke 6:17). “And all the people began to touch Him: for power proceeded from Him and healed them all” (Luke 6:19). “And He lifted up His eyes on His disciples and said, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for yours is the kingdom of God” (Luke 6:20). In such a solemn atmosphere, the Savior’s conversation on the mount began. In it He spoke about the paths of bliss, about the relationship of the Old Testament to the New, about love for enemies, about fasting, about prayer, about non-judgment of neighbors, about dangers from enemies, and more. The Evangelist Matthew devotes three whole chapters to extracts from this Sermon on the Mount of the Lord the Savior. In this luminous conversation of the Savior, we are also given a model of prayer in the Lord’s Prayer, with which we daily turn to the Heavenly Father. Sermon on the Mount.
