The first great thing that our Lord Jesus Christ did was that He revealed to us the light of truth. The deep darkness of idolatry held all nations. The best minds felt its terrible gravity, but could not get out of this darkness and waited for illumination from above. A heavy blindfold lay over the eyes of the Jews and prevented them from seeing the truth that Moses and other prophets told them about. They were carried away by worldly temptations to the love of money and earthly glory. They limited works of piety only to the observance of rituals and did this more for show to others, and not out of sincere zeal, and they invented various ways to circumvent the requirements of the external ritual law when they needed it. The Lord preached His divine teaching wherever the opportunity was opened: in the temple of Jerusalem, in the synagogues of the Jews, on the way, from a boat on the Sea of ​​Galilee. Each of His words is a ray of light, piercing the pitch darkness with its radiance. The disciples who surrounded Him, the people who followed Him in large numbers, listened with love to His teaching and were amazed at the great power of this teaching, which immediately revealed the truth and conquered their hearts. “And when Jesus finished these words,” the Gospel says, “the people marveled at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes and Pharisees” (Matthew 7:29). One day the chief priests and Pharisees sent servants to take Jesus and bring him to them. The servants did not carry out this order.
