Spring is pleasant to everyone, because it decorates the face of the earth with flowers and covers everything with greenery; but it is especially pleasant to me because it returns complete convenience to talking in writing with my acquaintances. I would like to see you in person, but since this is impossible, then with the greatest zeal I take on what is possible and begin to write to you. It is not with such pleasure that sailors and shipbuilders dissect the surface of the sea when the season favorable for navigation arrives, with which I now take up pen, paper and ink, intending to write to your standards. During the winter, when everything was numb with frost and an indescribable amount of snow covered all the roads, it was impossible to get to us from anywhere, or to leave us anywhere. Therefore, locked in these little rooms, as if in a prison, with our tongues seemingly bound in chains, we involuntarily remained silent for a long time, deprived of the means to send letters. But as soon as spring opened the roads for travel, the shackles fell from our tongue, and we, having gathered the presbyter who lives with us on the road, send him to your nobility to inquire about your health.
