In this book, Ezra talks about the return of the Jews from captivity in the same way as in the first, except for the story about the questions. Much is said about the eunuch Nehemiah; that he asked for the building of the church, and that Ezra read the law, and Joshua, Anui 13 and Sarabia interpreted it to the people. Ezra, reading, taught the knowledge of God, and the people delved into the meaning of what they were reading and celebrated Passover; in the seventh month he celebrated fasting and the Feast of Tabernacles, as it is written: “From the days of Joshua the son of Nun until this day the children of Israel did not so” (Neh. 8:17). Meanwhile, Ezra, seeing that the women of Azoth were getting along with the Jews, convinced everyone to make a promise to preserve the law of God; expelled these wives as illegal, and everyone swore to uphold the law. Having thus been sanctified and purified, they celebrated, and then each went to his own house. It is also said about Ezra that when the books were lost due to the negligence of the people during a long captivity, Ezra, as an inquisitive and knowledgeable reader, preserved them all and then brought them with him and published them again, and thus preserved these books (3 Ezra 14).
